					Deputy Chair for NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA)

The Director of NIHR Evaluations, Trials and Studies, Professor Tom Walley
CBE, seeks to appoint a leader in the field of health technology assessment
or related applied clinical research, to undertake the duties of Deputy Chair
for the NIHR HTA Commissioned Research Board. The term of office for the
current post-holder is due to end in March 2011. This post is for one day a
week for four years in the first instance, and there may be a need to rotate to
the researcher-led board in the future. The successful applicants’ employers
will be reimbursed for their time commitment.

As Deputy Chair you will be responsible for deputising for the Chair where
required, which will include acting as Chair for up to a third of the topics
considered by the board. Other responsibilities will include chairing the HTA
Themed Call Boards, attending site visits for funded projects, and supporting
further development of NIHR HTA programme.

The total commitment to the NIHR HTA programme in attendance at
meetings, providing specific advice and undertaking background work will be
equivalent to one day per week on average.

The successful candidate will have an enthusiasm for, and considerable
experience of, Health Technology Assessment, as well as excellent
negotiation skills, the ability to chair large committees effectively, and a track
record of research leadership and involvement in commissioning research.
