re dA rchitectu esign an E Fac ulty of A rt, D N PRO GRAMM O OR IENTATI 2010 FACULTY OF ART, DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE Dear First-year Student Welcome to the University of Johannesburg and congratulations on being selected for one of the programmes offered through the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. The Faculty is committed to fostering creative and professional excellence in art and design education and we trust that your period of study will prepare you for a future career in dynamic and ever changing environments. The Faculty offers ten programmes and is home to over a thousand students who study and work in the custom-built FADA Building on the Bunting Road Campus. Conveniently situated in the building are a number of specialised workshops, studios, computer laboratories, common lecture venues, an auditorium, gallery and library. Departments in the Faculty include Architecture, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Jewellery and Ceramic Design, Multimedia and Visual Art. The Faculty works closely with industry to ensure that its programmes remain relevant and to keep students constantly exposed to changes occurring in the practising worlds of art and design. Throughout the year recognised national and international artists, designers and academics are invited to address students at weekly school talks. The FADA Gallery hosts a series of stimulating exhibitions throughout the year and the annual student exhibitions showcase the best student work for public viewing. We in the Faculty know that with dedication and hard work you will acquire the necessary expertise in your chosen discipline and benefit intellectually from your time with us. We encourage you to participate in the many extra mural activities available to students and to enjoy everything that the University has to offer. We hope your student experience will prove to be enriching in many ways and that later in life you will be able to fondly reflect on your years as a student at the University of Johannesburg. Good luck and make the most of all the opportunities that arise!
