                                       STRATEGIC PLAN

                                            PREAMBLE

We, the members of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives First Coast Chapter, governed
by a Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice, believe that philanthropy is a
necessary element of civic betterment and that fund raising is an essential discipline of the
philanthropic process.

                                              VISION

1. We envision the National Society of Fund Raising Executives First Coast Chapter as the leading
professional association of individuals engaged in facilitating the philanthropic process inspiring and
assisting its members and the community in their efforts to generate support for worthy causes that
benefit society throughout the First Coast region.

2. The Florida First Coast Chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives is the
premier source of fundraising expertise in our area and strives to promote professionalism in the
development arena by assisting both established and novice professionals and organizations to
understand philanthropy and its role in our community.

                                             MISSION

The National Society of Fund Raising Executives First Coast Chapter, advances ethical philanthropy
through education, peer support and advocacy, thus enabling individuals and organizations to better
serve the diverse communities and people of the First Coast.

                             GOALS, OBJECTIVES & METHODS

To fulfill the Mission, the National Society of Fund Raising Executives First Coast Chapter
recognizes the need for challenging yet attainable goals. Herein are presented such goals, specific
objectives, and measurable methods for attaining them for the years 1999-2004. It is the intention of
the Board of Directors that this plan shall be updated annually to reflect the changes that inevitably
will occur on the First Coast in the coming years.

Goal: To stimulate and educate members and the public in order to improve the quality of
      philanthropy in our community.

Objective A: Increase attendance at meetings by making all meetings useful and meaningful.

Methods A:    To attain this objective:
              1. Development of program schedule to include outside presenters.
              2. Publish yearly calendar with topics and presenters to be distributed at the
                 beginning of the calendar year.
              3. Continue use of blast fax.

Objective B: Appeal to Advanced Professionals

Methods B:    To attain this objective:
              1. Establish working members services program and illustrate need to advanced
                 professionals of their participation in mentorships.
              2. Increase level of programs offered via outside presenters.

                                                  Ethics/Certification

Goal: Adhere to and promote the mission of NSFRE.

The National Society of Fund Raising Executives exists to foster the development and growth of
fund raising professionals and the profession, to preserve and enhance philanthropy and
volunteerism, and to promote high ethical standards in the fund raising profession.

NSFRE members follow the Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice and
strive to uphold these values in their responsibilities for generating philanthropic support.

Objective A: Generate greater understanding of the NSFRE Code of Ethical Principles, Standards
             of Professional Practice and Donor Bill of Rights.

Methods A:    To attain this objective:
              1. Continue to use the National Philanthropy Day to recognize individuals,
                 businesses, and foundations who enhance and preserve philanthropy.
              2. Affirm charitable mission above personal gain and maintain the highest ethical
                 standards for accepting compensation.
              3. Address ethical issues in each newsletter.
              4. Task the Ethics Committee to present one program meeting each year.
              5. Encourage members to incorporate Donor Bill of Rights in their fund raising
                 literature and activities.
              6. Promote adherence to Jacksonville, Duval County, and the State of Florida
                 charitable solicitation regulations.
              7. Provide new members with information packets concerning these regulations and
                 include Donor Bill of Rights, Code of Ethical Principles, and Standards of
                 Professional Practice.

                                 Membership and Marketing

Goal: To increase membership annually by retaining 100% of current members who have not left
      the profession or the area and gaining new members at a rate annually of 10% of total
      membership. To develop marketing strategies that promote the organization and the
      advantages of membership.

Objective A: Actively promote membership renewal and new memberships by increasing the
             visibility of the organization in the community and through annual membership
             contacts with current members, prospective members, and executive directors of
             organizations who engage in fund raising.

Method A:
              1. Develop promotional visuals that can be placed in the Florida Times Union,
                 Jacksonville Business Journal, Jacksonville Magazine, and the publications of
                 other related professional organizations (FPRA, etc.) during “membership”
                 season that outline the purpose and programs of NSFRE.
              2. Explore the use of broadcast media in promoting NSFRE programs and
                 membership and develop strategies for using appropriate opportunities.
              3. Use the chapter newsletter during “membership” season to highlight membership
                 advantages and to preview programs for the coming year.
              4. Call all current members who do not renew their membership to collect and track
                 reasons for non-renewal and develop strategies with the chapter board for
                 addressing those that can be remedied.
              5. Contact by mail non-member professional fund raisers who have attended any
                 NSFRE program with membership information.
              6. Contact by mail the executive directors of all organizations in our area to explain
                 NSFRE purposes and programs with special emphasis on the ways in which
                 NSFRE membership serves the organizations represented by members.
              7. Review the contents of the membership kit and establish a process for
                 distributing the kit to all who inquire about membership.

Objective B: Elevate membership in NSFRE to an expectation for fund raising professionals in our
             area.

Method B:     1. Publish a membership directory for distribution to all members and to executive
                 directors of nonprofit organizations engaged in fund raising.
              2. Develop an informational piece directed to executive directors of nonprofit
                 organizations engaged in fund raising that instruct them in the use of the NSFRE
                 job bank for filling fund raising positions and provide them with personal
                 guidance from chapter members in preparing and posting those positions.
              3. Develop and implement strategies for welcoming new chapter members publicly

                   and personally.
              4.   Publicize the professional accomplishments of chapter members.
              5.   Encourage CFRE and ACFRE certification and offer training and test sites.
              6.   Promote the use of certification indications after member names whenever they
                   appear in print.
              7.   Develop and implement strategies for promoting the “introductory” level of
                   membership.
              8.   Explore the possibility of defining and developing a mentoring program.
              9.   Promote the NSFRE Friends Program to appropriate organizations.

Objective C: Engage Advanced Professionals in chapter programs

Method C:     1. Develop strategies for increasing membership advantages for advanced
                 professionals and market those advantages to current and prospective senior level
                 professionals.
              2. Promote the growth of a network of advanced professionals in which leadership
                 roles such as program presenter and board membership are encouraged.

Objective D: Increase diversity in chapter membership

Method D:     1. Place NSFRE promotional materials in publications distributed to a diverse
                 audience.

              2. Develop and implement strategies for establishing connections specifically to
                 organizations that represent diverse populations.

Goal: Promote philanthropy at all levels within the community.

Objective A: Target fund raising professionals, executive directors and affiliated professionals.

Methods A:     To obtain this objective:
               1. Link the other professional organizations, such as Planning Giving Council,
                  Estate Planning Council, (others . . . ), by having Board representation by NSFRE
                  members.
               2. Establish a web site to provide information and resource data.
               3. Maintain a job bank - Include positions of organizations looking for pro bono
                  project consultants.
               4. Encourage networking among members and guests to our meetings -
                  Establish a retention committee for following up with members and guests
                  (membership issue).
               5. Develop a mentoring program for new members to retain membership.

               1. Establish a Speakers Bureau and/or a Board Resource Network.
               2. Provide an annual Community Service Forum for nonprofits/fundraisers.
               3. Implement the mentoring program within the FFC Chapter.
               4. Maintain a Chapter Scrapbook/log reflecting activities of members.
               5. Participate in innovative activities that promote philanthropic awareness, such as
                  Youth in Philanthropy or perhaps partnering with Youth Leadership Jacksonville.
               6. Establish a permanent address and telephone number to facilitate ease of contact
                  by members, prospective members and the media.

Objective C: Receive positive media recognition at least once a month

Methods C:     To attain this objective:
               1. Establish contacts with the Florida Times Union, Jacksonville Business Journal,
                  Financial News & Record and other local publications.
               2. Send press releases to publications on Chapter activities and major philanthropic
                  activities of members.
               3. Encourage members to recognize the FFC when they are profiled in the media.
               4. Piggyback on successful campaigns as a forum for promoting professionals in
                  local fundrasing community.

Objective D: Be recognized as experts on philanthropy

             5. Develop a celebrity spokesperson for our Chapter to develop a PSA.

Goal: Earn a surplus budget, annually, to provide funds for enhanced programs and services.

Objective A: Provide excellent and expanded membership benefits, including but not limited to:
             · Quality speakers and programs
             · Scholarships for conferences, memberships and CFRE
             · Mentoring programs

Methods A:    To attain this objective:
              1. Bring outstanding speakers and programs which attract attendance.
              2. Develop a simple, formal case statement which includes a list of the
                 organizations represented within the NSFRE membership and use this case
                 statement to seek sponsorships, grants and gifts in-kind, primarily for National
                 Philanthropy Day and the seminar.

              4. Conduct profitable biennial educational seminars of regional interest which have

              5. Actively participate with the Florida Caucus to present a profitable biennial
                 statewide conference and maximize Chapter proceeds by increasing attendance of
                 Chapter members at the Conference.
              6. Utilize financial resources available through NSFRE Service Office to fullest
                 advantage including increasing participation in the Every Member Campaign to
                 subsequently increase revenues back to the Chapter.

Objective B: Utilize the resources of NSFRE to impact the broader community.

Methods B:    To attain this objective:
