PLANT NO. 2 IET 418 – GROUP 4 Group Members: •Johnny Baker – IET, AAS Operations Technology Industrial Engineering Technology Option •Vince Fullenkamp – MCT •Tim Poirier – CET Purpose In response to a request from Hi-Tech, Inc. our team is putting together a proposal for a new product. Project Outline To create the best bid for Hi-Tech we complied figures form several different sources to give us a best case scenario given the data provided for cost as well as the time required to produce the specified part. Time Study Based on data from an intern we were able to create a time study for the process necessary to create the new product. The basic formula used to create the time study was: Ts = (Times collected / number of cycles) * PR * PFD Time Study Material Cost To predict what the new product for Hi-Tech would cost a Material Cost estimate was preformed to obtain the cost of the material required to make the part. Material Cost Estimate Operations Sheet To further our bid for Hi-Tech we created an Operations sheet to give us a better idea on costs. Operations Sheet WBS To better illustrate the work flow proposed to create the part for Hi-Tech, a WBS was created. Alternative Options While working on this proposal it has come to our attention that another alternative is available, while differing from the outlined operation, this new method could yield better results. Alternative Options The current processing method of producing this part is overkill. A turret lathe and a broach can be used to manufacture this part in lieu of using a lathe, drill press, end mill, and slab mill. This method of using just a turret lathe and a broach can reduce the amount of time that is takes to manufacture the part. Handling time, floor space usage, energy costs, setup time, tool cost and manpower hours can all by reduced by employing this proposed method. ANY QUESTIONS?
