                          Parentage confirmation by DNA genotype
Lately, DNA genotype testing has come to the forefront. This test would replace testing we require
to verify the lineage of a horse, and which was required for each stallion. The blood type testing, for
various reasons, will no longer be available, or offered by the laboratory. We, therefore, had to
move toward DNA genotype testing and formulate these new procedures. During the year 2001 and
all subsequent years, a DNA genotype certificate must be obtained for all sires. This certificate must
be forwarded to Canadian Livestock Records Corporation (CLRC) before any breedings take place.
No registration certificate, as of January 2002, will be issued without remittance to CLRC of the
DNA genotype certificate for the sire, the dam and the foal. The foal’s DNA genotype certificate
must confirm parentage. There is an exclusion for gelding until 2004.

Members who so wish, can now use the following procedure to register or confirm the sire status of
their stallion :

Make a request for each horse to the Canadian Livestock Records
Corporation (CLRC) for the necessary kit using the form at the bottom of
this page. A payment of $60.00 per horse must accompany the form.
