NAMI Basics Outreach Script for Private Schools the metropolitan Baltimore area Last updated:7/22/10 Hello, my name is _______________. I am a volunteer/intern with NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore. How are you? We are contacting schools in the metropolitan Baltimore area to enlist your help recruiting members for the upcoming free education program for parents and other kinship caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illness. All course materials are furnished at no cost. The 6 week course is taught by trained teachers who are also parents/caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness in childhood. The curriculum discusses current information about the major childhood mental illnesses and provides the fundamentals a caregiver needs to care for themselves, their family, and their child who is living with a mental illness. We are scheduling a class for the fall. Could you help us by asking anyone you believe would benefit from taking the class to contact the office at 410-435-2600? If yes: May I have your contact information so that I can email/mail you a flier and information about our other services? (Try to get email addresses!!) I would like to thank you in advance for your time and any help you can provide us. Do you know of any other ways that we can recruit members for NAMI Basics? FOLLOW UP TO TELEPHONE OUTREACH 1. Create a spreadsheet of contact information PLEASE include e-mail addresses for the targeted group. 2. Follow up initial call with an e-mail (e-mail to include thank you and a NAMI Basics flier.) 3. Within one week of call send a letter with NAMI Basics brochures and fliers. 4. Two weeks after packet is sent follow up with an e-mail inquiring as to whether they received packet and have interest in a NAMI member to talk to staff or families. 5. When all calls and followup is complete, enter the spreadsheet into the database, and listserv. Place in pinksheet draw. * * * * Label brochures with affiliate contact information. Request that affiliate track number of calls received as a result point of contact person in an attempt to measure success of the outreach effort.
