					Checklist to be Completed with Submission – Fire Hydrant/Hose Reel Pump

The following tables must be completed by the applicant and submitted during application.

A. Supporting Documents Required :

           authenticated by appropriate authorities or trade commission of the exporting country.
    5      Brochure/catalogue/shop drawings/sectional drawings/pump curves of the materials.
    6.     Sample of pump certificate showing pump model, serial number, and materials of major
           components, and Manufacturer‟s confirmation on providing pump certificate for each
           pump.
    7      Test certificates showing compliance with the material specification for pump casings,
           shafts and impellers. The test certificates should be issued either by an independent
           laboratory or by the factory producing the components. (Certificates shall be in English
           or Chinese or English/Chinese translation issued by certification bodies or by approved
           independent translation agency).

                     pixels and a file size of 800kB minimum. Where blow-up of details is given, only optically
                     zoomed in images would be accepted.)

  6.1.010.A     Compliance with Rules/Regulations
                Pumps and pump installations for hydrant/hosereel systems
                shall comply with Code of Practice for Minimum Fire
                Service Installations and Equipment and Inspection, Testing
                and Maintenance of Installations and Equipment published
                by Hong Kong Government and BS 5306: Part 1: 1976
                (1988) wherever applicable.
  2.A.2.1.060.A The intermediate booster pump shall be either horizontal

  6.1.040.3        Pump curves
                   Predicted total Head/Quantity, required NPSH/Quantity,
                   Efficiency/ Quantity, and Power Absorbed/Quantity Curves
                   shall be supplied.
                   The curves shall commence at zero flow and be extended to
                   show the performance at heads lower than the minimum
                   head.

2.A.2.1.050A.3   a.    The pressure of the pump shall fall progressively
                       with the increase of flow, with the shut-off pressure
                       being at the highest. The pump shall deliver not
                       more than 150% of rated capacity at 65% of rated
                       head and the shut-off head shall not exceed 130% of
                       the rated head;
                 b.    Overheating due to continuous operation at no system
                       draw-off condition is not acceptable. The minimum
                       leak off rate of the pump(s) to prevent overheating
                       shall be confirmed by the pump manufacturer;
                 c.    The pump shall be capable of providing an aggregate
                       flow of not less than 900 1/min at any two hydrant
                       outlets each with a flow of 450 1/min at a running
                       pressure of not less than 350kPa. The pressure at any
                       hydrant shall in no case exceed 850kPa;
                 d.   The pump shall also be able to maintain the required
                      aggregate flow and pressure at any two hydrants
                      when water is pumped through the FS Inlet at a
                      pressure of not more than 800kPa;
                 e.    Predicted total head, efficiency, required NPSH and
                      power absorbed Vs flow quantity curves shall be
                      submitted. The curves shall commence at zero and
                      be extended to show the performance at 150% of the
                      rated capacity to demonstrate that the pump will be
                      capable of meeting the full range of operating
                      condition on site.

6.2.010.A & All pump parts shall be constructed of materials suitable for

6.3.030.B     a. Casing:

                 bearing bush shall be made of tungsten carbide, silicon
                 carbide or equal material & approved to minimise wear.
                 Besides, motor stool should be provided for vertically
                 mounted pump.

                 as well as the axial and radial load developed in operation;
                 2. Shaft sleeves, if used, shall be keyed to prevent rotation

6.4.010.A    Pump bearings
             a. All bearings shall be of types readily obtainable;
             b. For horizontal mounted pumps, the bearings shall be of
                the sealed ball or roller type, oil or grease lubricated;
             c. Means shall be provided to protect the bearing from
                ingress of dust and water;
             d. Appropriate lubrication nipple/connections or oiler sump
                with drain plug shall be provided for maintenance
                purpose;
             e. For fresh water pumps, the bearing housings shall be cast
                iron. For flush water pumps, the bearing housing and
                cover shall be stainless steel to BS3100 : 1991 grade 316
                C16, or JIS SCS14A. The bearing housing and covers
                shall be easily removable for service;
             f. The bearing cover shall provide a labyrinth seal to contain
                grease/oil in the housing;
             g. For vertical pumps, the bearing bush (thrust bearing) shall
                be made of tungsten carbide or silicon carbide.

6.4.020.3    Pump packings
             a. All pump packings shall be in square plait braided
                construction and shall contain no asbestos
             b. The braids shall not be liable to become loose or peel
                off throughout their life.
             c. The packing shall be suitable for use in fresh water
                application.
             d. Size of the packing shall be commensurate with the size
                of the pump.
             e. The packing shall be made from any one of the
                following materials: Aramid fibre, carbon yarn, PTFE
                or other non-asbestos fibres. It shall be impregnated
                with PTFE and/or heat resistant lubricants. Any
                coating that will lead to the particles being rubbed off is
                not acceptable.
             f. The packing shall also satisfy the following
                requirements:
                i)    Rated pH value: 5-9
                ii) Rated maximum operating speed : Not less than 10
                      m/s
                iii) Rated maximum operating temp.: Not less than
                      150oC

6.4.030.A     Pump Seals
              a. Unless otherwise specified, mechanical seals shall not be
                 acceptable for flush water, or non-fresh water application;
              b. If gland packing is used for fresh water pumps, pump
                 seals shall be of the stuffing box gland type of appropriate
                 depth to prevent leakage. Low pressure stuffing boxes
                 shall be water sealed to prevent air leakage. Glands shall
                 be of cast iron or bronze.


6.5.020.A     Couplings
              a. Each pump, except „closed-coupled‟ type, shall be fitted
                 with a secure coupling and shaft guide.
              b. The coupling shall be of semi-flexible steel pin and rubber
                 bush type, accurately aligned on site.


6.5.030.3     Lubrication fittings
              Each pump shall be fitted with appropriate lubrication
              fittings.

6.5.040.3     Air breed cocks
              Each pump shall be equipped with test and/or air bleed
              cocks of the high pressure type.

6.5.050.A     Lifting Eyes
              Vertical pumps shall be provided with lifting eyes to facilitate
              maintenance and future replacement.


6.5.060.3     Identification
              A serial number for identification purpose should be
              indelibly marked or label fixed on the pump casing. An
              arrow indicating the normal direction of rotation shall be
              cast clearly on the pump casing or a brass arrow and plate
              engraved with the words “Direction of Rotation” shall be
              screwed to the pump casing near the coupling.

6.7.010.A     Tests
              Each series of pumps shall be tested to ISO 2548.

6.7.020.A     Pump certificates
              a. Each pump shall be provided with a certificate issued and
                 signed by the manufacturer. The certificate shall clearly
                 record the pump model, serial number and the materials
                 of the casing, shaft and impeller.
              b. Each pump or each batch of pumps shall also be provided
                 with a certificate on their place of manufacture. The
                 certificate shall be issued by a recognized Chamber of
                 Commerce of the place of manufacture concerned.
