Intro
This demonstration shows how OmniFind Enterprise Edition, IBM’s flagship enterprise search engine,
can be used to maximize productivity and knowledge sharing throughout Lotus Domino environments.
Using OmniFind Enterprise Edition for searching Domino databases provides several advantages
over using the native Domain Search, including greater scalability options, better search performance,
richer search capabilities, and reach to other enterprise content sources, including file shares,
databases, and content management systems.

1a
In this example, a user enters a keyword search for “omnifind”, and the search engine detects a
misspelling. Alternate spellings are suggested.

1b
Once the correct term is selected, the search engine returns highly relevant results from A Lotus
Notes database and other sources including …

An IBM DB2 database …

A Content Manager repository …

Web and intranet pages …

And a Windows file system.

1c
Pre-built connectors for indexing content form many other enterprise sources are also available.

1d
To make it easier and quicker for knowledge workers to retrieve the specific documents they need,
search results can be filtered by source type …

Or by file type.

2a
In this example, the user wants to see only PDF documents stored in a Lotus Notes database that
match the query for “omnifind.”

2b
Search results can be sorted by relevance, by date, or by any other metadata field that has been
enabled for sorting.

2c
Here, results from a Lotus Notes database are sorted by created date …

2d
They can also be sorted by other Lotus Notes metadata fields, including “file name” and “extension.”

3a
Only documents that the user is authorized to see are displayed in the search results. OmniFind
Enterprise Edition honors the native document-level security for Lotus Notes, Windows file system,
and a number of other sources.

3b
Document summaries with keyword highlight are generated dynamically based on query terms to help
users quickly determine the likely relevance of a document.

3c
Results from the same source are suppressed, and a link is provided for viewing more results from
that source. This prevents any one source from dominating the result set.

4a
Search results can be opened with a Web browser, or, as shown here, with the Lotus Notes client.

4b
OmniFind Enterprise Edition also provides a “Quick Links” feature, which allows administrators to
feature “don’t miss items” when specific keywords are entered.

4c
In this example, a query for “omnifind” features a link to the “Enterprise Search” page on the IBM
website

5a
While keyword search is sufficient for many queries, users often need to search for concepts such as
people’s phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and other entities.

5b
Here, a user wants to find the phone number for a colleague, Joel Waterman.

5c
A keyword search for “joel waterman phone number” returns a list of documents that include the
keywords “phone” or “number,” but the actual phone numbers are not highlighted.

5d
OmniFind Enterprise Edition uses synonym expansion as a way to bring conceptual understanding to
keyword search. From the “preferences” tab, the user selects the option to “automatically search for
synonyms by semantic expansion.”

5e
Now, a search for “joel waterman phone number” returns relevant results that highlight actual phone
numbers, even when the words “phone” and “number” do not appear in the document.

6a
The sample Web application being show in this demonstration is included in the product, and can be
easily customized without any programming. An organization can create as many instances of this
application as needed to suit various user groups within the enterprise.

6b
With IBM OmniFind Enterprise Edition, Lotus Domino customers can take advantage of high-quality,
scalable, and secure enterprise search to maximize productivity and knowledge sharing. For more
