Basic Field Instructions for Uploading Stops and Photos for Linking • • Sync date/time on Garmin GPSmap 76 and Kodak DC5000 camera (follow instructions on pg.6 in Kodak DC5000 User’s Guide to sync the camera to the GPS date). Set Picture Quality to “Best” and Picture Resolution to “High” on Kodak DC5000 (follow instructions on pg.25-26 in Kodak DC5000 User’s Guide). • • • At each transect stop, “mark” a GPS waypoint, using the 3 digit transect number and 2 digit stop number (Example: 00601). Try to take any photo documentation within minutes of marking a GPS waypoint. Photos will be matched to the nearest transect stop by date/time. Using MN-DNR Garmin application, save new points to a .txt file (Example: 06FG.txt) to appropriate survey area folder at S:\Service_Center\AK_NRCS\Soils\field_documentation. See “Using MN-DNR Garmin” for expanded instructions. Copy photos directly from camera to common location on C drive and CD archive. You are responsible for maintaining your original full resolution photos locally. (Do not use a 3 rd party application to move, rename, rotate, or otherwise modify the photos until they are linked to stops). • • Using IrfanView, Resample photos to 25% (size about 100kb) of original size; Rename photos (Example: 06FG_###) saving to appropriate survey area folder at S:\Service_Center\AK_NRCS\Soils\field_documentation. See “Using IrfanView to Batch Resample/Rename Photos” and accompanying diagrams for expanded instructions.
