Dear Colleague
STAFF SEASON TICKET (RAIL) LOAN SCHEME
Welcome to the County Council’s Staff Season Ticket Loan Scheme. This benefit is being
offered to staff as part of the Council’s Staff Travel Plan to encourage more environmentally
friendly travel. Further details and an application form to purchase a rail season ticket under the
scheme are attached.
The Staff Season Ticket Loan Scheme is valid for all rail operators. Please note that if you
already have a season ticket loan through the scheme you will not be eligible for another
until you have paid off your existing loan. The loan must be paid off before the expiry of
the season ticket and will therefore run for the same time period.
When you have decided which season ticket you wish to purchase and how much it will cost
please complete and sign the attached Application Form and copy of the Season Ticket Loan
Agreement and send these to Pam Fisk, Financial Services, County Hall.
Your Group Head will need to authorise your loan, Financial Services will then let you know
when your application has been processed, which may take up to three weeks. You will then be
sent a notification of approval and you may collect your rail warrant also from Pam Fisk and
purchase your season ticket at the railway station.
Please read the attached information carefully.
Yours Sincerely,
Ann Rowland

WHAT IS THE STAFF SEASON TICKET(RAIL) LOAN SCHEME?
• This scheme is available to employees of Bedfordshire County Council only. Unfortunately,
it is not possible to offer the scheme to casual/temporary staff or to staff with contracts that
have less than 6 months to run.
• You may only apply for a loan from the County Council to purchase a rail season ticket for
your journey to work.
• The loan is interest free.
• Repayments will be deducted automatically from your salary or wage over the period for
which the season ticket is valid.
• We regret that no refunds or replacements can be given by Bedfordshire County Council for
lost or stolen season tickets. Please ensure that your season ticket is insured. If the
season ticket is lost before the end of the loan period, you will still be required to pay for the
card until the end of that period.
• If you leave the County Council's employment before the end of the loan period, the
outstanding balance will become payable and will be deducted from the payroll.
RAIL SEASON TICKETS are available from all mainline railway stations.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
1. Decide for what period you wish the season ticket to cover and find out the cost.
2. Complete the application form and copy of the Season Ticket Loan Agreement. You will need
to get authorisation from your Group Head.
3. Send the completed forms to Pam Fisk, Financial Services, at County Hall.
4. The Financial Services section will notify you once your application for a loan has been
processed. Once you have this notification you should take it with you to Pam Fisk who will
arrange for you to receive a rail warrant.
5. You may then use the rail warrant to purchase your season ticket.
6. The rail company will invoice the County Council for the purchase of the season ticket and the
County Council will begin deducting the repayments from your salary, normally starting in the
month following completion of the agreement.
