Frankfurt Mayor Claims Event was More Spectacular than World Cup 2006 festivities

FRANKFURT, GERMANY (June 2, 2009) – To launch the International German Gymnastics Festival in Frankfurt, Germany, global event and promotion marketing firm McCann Momentum produced a widely-applauded 40 minute opening ceremony that incorporated fire, light, water, laser and acrobatics – and an innumerable number of special effects in front of 400,000 fans along the city’s riverfront. The event, the largest water-screen-show ever shown in Europe, was, according to Petra Roth, the lord mayor of Frankfurt, “…even better than anything we saw at the World Cup 2006!” The Gymnastics Festival takes place from May 30-June 5 and repeat performances of the spectacular will be shown every evening through the end of the event. Thomas Feda, managing director of Tourism+Congress Frankfurt who commissioned the show expects 1.5 million viewers throughout the week. Further, the show which was aired on TV one hour after the event, had a 15% market share in TV ratings. SHOW DETAILS:  For the first time in Europe, laser effects and video montages were projected on a 200 meter wide “water screen” suspended 40 meters above the river. The video montages included scenes of WorldChampion German gymnast Fabian Hambüchen as well as other popular gymnasts  Jet-ski-drivers with pyrotechnic equipment ignited a massive mega fireworks display that lit up the city skyline  Quiet emotional moments with dancing gymnasts as well as dynamic action scenes were also projected onto gigantic helium balls along the river  At the entrance to the event, school children welcomed visitors in ten different languages McCann Momentum Germany’s Creative Director was Victor Steinbrück and the Head of Production was Herwig Pusca. Ralf Specht, the agency´s CEO, said, “It is a great feeling to give a moment to the people of Frankfurt and to the sport of gymnastics that nobody will ever forget!“ ###
