However, nominal sizes of piping components shall be in accordance with inch system, which abbreviation is (B). SPC-0804.02-96.51 PIPING PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED PAGE: 4 OF 15 CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION REV: D2 2.0 EXECUTION OF PIPING CONSTRUCTION WORKS 2.1 General Drawings and Reference for Works 2.1.1 Piping construction works shall be constructed as following drawings. (1) Plot Plan (2) Piping Arrangement Drawings (plan and elevation) (3) ISO drawing (4) Pipe Hanging Details (5) Detail drawings of steam trap, sampling cooler and its assembly (6) Instrument Process Piping Hook-up Drawings (7) Notes for Piping Drawings (8) Line Schedule (9) Others, if necessary. 2.2 Standards for Execution of Works 2.2.1 Piping materials used for construction works, the method of piping joints described in piping arrangement drawings and piping fittings shall be in accordance with "Engineering Specification Piping Materials (SPC-0804.02- 50.02)" 2.2.2 In a piping connecting to equipment's having different class designation, the higher class shall be applied up to the shut-off valve including the shut-off valve. If a check valve is installed at down-stream of the shut-off valve, the check valve shall also be of the higher class designation. 2.2.3 All tees shall be ones which are specified in the "Engineering Specification Piping Materials (SPC-0804.02-50.02)". The reinforcement shall be in according to ASME B31.3 Para. 304. However, block tees shall always be as specified in the "Engineering Specification Piping Materials (SPC-0804.02- 50.02)". 2.2.4 Gasket used for pressure test shall not be used again after completion of the test. 2.2.5 Contractors shall check the finished dimension of pipe racks against the piping Arrangement Drawings before mounting the piping. 2.2.6 Marking to identify piping materials in field shall be in accordance with "Marking for Piping Material (SPC-0804.02-50.92)", not to be used paint included zinc. SPC-0804.02-96.51 PIPING PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED PAGE: 5 OF 15 CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION REV: D2 2.3 Cutting 2.3.1 Pipes and fittings shall preferably be cut with cutting machine and beveled by machining, grinding, etc., according to the shapes described in "Engineering Specification Piping Materials (SPC-0804.02-50.02)". 2.3.2 Gas cutting, air cutting, or torch cutting for alloy steel shall be adopted for rough curing only. In this case, the cut part shall be made smoothly by grinding off at least 2mm. 2.3.3 Cutter blade of abrasive cutting machine for cutting austenitic stainless steels shall not be confused with that used for cutting carbon steels 2.3.4 Pipe cutter shall never be used for piping works. If it is inevitably used, the inner surface of pipe at cut-end shall be well finished by reamer or file. 2.3.5 Plasma jet cutting may be applied for stainless steel. 2.3.6 No openings such as branches shall be located to pass through a weld. Such openings shall have their boundaries at least one OD away from adjacent welds. 2.3.7 To ensure there is no carbon contamination of stainless steel pipe and fittings the following fabrication and erection equipment needs to designated and color coded consisting off but not limited to cutting equipment, clamps, jigs, hand tools. etc. 2.3.8 Transfer of heat numbers when cutting pipe and this is applied to Stainless Steel Pipe and Steel Pipe for Low Temperature Service only. 2.4 DELETED 2.5 Threading 2.5.1 Thread to be used for pipe shall be taper thread in accordance with "Engineering Specification Piping Materials (SPC-0804.02-50.02)" 2.5.2 Deleted 2.5.3 In case where pipes are seal-welded after screwed-in, lubricant, seal tape, etc. shall not be used. 2.5.4 Coupling's length of threaded connection shall be according to 2.5.1 and no thread shall be left outside after it was duly screwed-in. 2.6 Welding 2.6.1 Welding General (1) Welders shall have the qualifications stipulated in ASME Section IX to cover the kind of materials concerned in the piping works. They also should be qualified in accordance with relevant specification. SPC-0804.02-96.51 PIPING PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED PAGE: 6 OF 15 CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION REV: D2 (2) Welding shall not be performed, as a rule, when the ambient temperature is below 5°C unless the pipe is preheated up to more than 40°C. (3) No welding shall be done if there is impingement of any rain, snow, sleet or high wind on the working area. However, welding may be done provided that wind protection is installed and approved by CONTRACTOR. (4) Chamfer shall be cleaned and free from rust, oil, paint, sand, moisture and other material which is detrimental to welding. (5) Weld bead shall be carefully laid to avoid undercut, pin hole, slag inclusion, crater, imperfect penetration, etc. (6) Welding rods shall be properly selected according to the kind of the steel to be welded. (7) Welding rods always should be stored as clean & drying condition. (8) Grounding wire shall be firmly fastened by screw or clamp to the material to be welded, at the position as near as possible to the welded part. (9) Inside of circumferential weld bead shall not have any burr or fragment of welding rod and all adhering substances shall be removed as far as possible. (10) Spatter, slag, etc. of welded parts shall be thoroughly removed down to the metal surface. (11) Provide jigs (bridges or clamps) in minimum number necessary for setting up. (12) Remove the jigs by grinder or gas cutting and, in case of gas cutting, cut it at upper part of its weld toe and finish by grinder down to the surface of base metal. Jigs shall never be struck down by hammer or plucked off. (13) Use jigs (bridges or clamps) made of material whose quality is the same as or better than the base metal. (14) When bridge or clamp is to be welded on the following materials shall be strictly and carefully observed. (1) High tensile strength steel (2) High carbon steel Aluminum killed steel (3) Low alloy steel (4) High alloy steel (15) Keep correct root openings by using spacer, etc. (16) In a tack welding, select welding rod of appropriate diameter for a tack welding so as to fit the root opening. (17) Circumferential butt joint welding shall be performed without using backing ring in principle. SPC-0804.02-96.51 PIPING PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED PAGE: 7 OF 15 CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION REV: D2 (18) As a rule, no backing ring shall be used for circumferential butt-welding of piping components. (19) In the case of butt welding of piping materials having different thickness, the end of the piping materials shall be worked so that the difference of diameter conies within 1.6mm at inner surface, unless otherwise specified. (20) Before welding first layer, both ends of tack weld bead shall be sharpened with grinder as shown in the following figures in order to allow complete fusion. (21) The first layer of the welding bead shall have complete penetration, welding electrode (root pass welding rod) or GTAW method being used, except for the case where both sides welding is adopted, and pipe diameter is over 500mm. Deposit welding shall be welded after grinding or removing inside welding bead with gauge. (22) Weld bead of austenitic stainless steel shall be acid cleaned except for the part where heat or cold insulation is applied. (23) It is not permitted to tack-weld the shoe on pipe rack, where the shoe is not to be fixed to the pipe rack. (24) Straightening of pipe by application of heat or otherwise is not permissible, (I.e. no diamond heat, no TIG washing, no weld gouging) (25) If reinforcement pads for branches should be made from two segments, the segments shall be welded in location away from the main pipe and the weld shall not run parallel to the main pipe's axis. 2.6.2 Welding for pipe (1) Shape of butt welding shall be in accordance with "Engineering Specification Piping Materials (SPC-0804.02-50.02)" root opening be in accordance with standards mentioned in WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), in the case of within 1/2 times the thickness of pipe. root opening shall be applied 1.0-2.0mm for plain end, 2.4-4.0mm for bevel end, unless otherwise specified. (2) In the case of butt welding of piping materials having different thickness, the welding of the piping materials shall be worked so that thicker side thickness should be accordance with thinner one. In the case that the difference of inside surface is more than 1.6mm, thicker surface shall be finished as ASME B31.3 Figure 328.4.3 Trimming and Permitted Misalignment. (3) When welded pipe is used in horizontal line, the pipe shall be laid so that the longitudinal weld line comes to the top of the pipe. The welding detail for main line, branch line and support shall be in accordance with Appendix IV. SPC-0804.02-96.51 PIPING PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED PAGE: 8 OF 15 CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION REV: D2 2.6.3 Welding for Branch Connection (1) Brach connection shall be made using tee specified in "Engineering Specification Piping Materials (SPC-0804.02-50.02)". When the branch pipe is welded directly to main pipe, unless otherwise specified, welding shall be performed as shown in Appendix I. (2) When outlet joint and half coupling joint (incl. Boss connection) are welded directly to main pipe, welding method shall be in accordance with Appendix II, unless otherwise specified in any drawings and references. 2.6.4 Welding for Flange The welding of flange and pipe shall be in accordance with Appendix Ill, unless otherwise specified in any drawings and references. 2.6.5 Filler Materials and Fluxes All filler metals and fluxes shall be in accordance with ASME Section II, Part C, since various national specifications for welding consumables are not freely interchangeable, equivalence to ASME / AWS Specifications shall be indicated. Equivalence may be determined by review of consumables (electrodes and fluxes) and manufacturer's catalogues and/or by chemical analysis and mechanical testing of deposits. (1) Dissimilar weldings shall be made using consumables as follows: 1) Welds between ferritic and austenitic stainless steels AISI type 309, provides that the process operating temperature is below 310 ۫C High nickel consumables; eg. If interruption in inevitable, means to avoid sudden cooling shall be taken and reheating shall be done before starting weld again. (ex: asbestos mat) 2.7.5 Heat treatment to be performed at the field shall be local heat treatment 2.7.6 In case where heat treatment is used for local, this shall be done as follows. (1) Around the heating coil, insulation of standard shape without damage or other abnormality shall be provided. (2) The chart of automatic temperature recorder shall be submitted as temperature record. (3) In the process of cooling down after the heat treatment air cooling shall be done after the temperature of the pipe became 300°C or below. (4) The pipe shall not be contacted with other kinds of metal during heating. (5) Any scale on inner and outer surface of pipe after heating shall be completely removed. Especially, flange surfaces shall be completely cleaned. 2.8 Fabrication and Installation 2.8.1 Fabrication of piping shall be worked in accordance with 2.1 - 2.5 2.8.2 Fabrication of piping shall be considered to transportation installation. 2.8.3 Sufficient protecting means shall be taken not to allow sand or other foreign matters go into inside of pipes and other piping materials. 2.8.4 On the inner surface and then both ends shall be sealed with suitable caps. 2.8.5 Assembly of piping components shall be performed after it is confirmed that all piping components are in accordance with drawings and Construction Specifications. 2.8.6 Each fabricated component of piping shall be cleaned by air or water for removing scale, oil, etc. 2.8.7 When installed piping components shall be considered not to be interrupted other facilities of works. SPC-0804.02-96.51 PIPING PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED PAGE: 11 OF 15 CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION REV: D2 2.8.8 Valves shall be installed as closed after cleaning, and shall not be opened during installation of piping systems. 2.8.9 If the inside of valve has any damage because of welding and heat treatment, valve should be disassembled and re-installed. 2.8.10 The piping components needed handling such as valves shall be considered to handle easily. 2.8.11 Flanged joints shall be fitted up, after checking for the alignment of flange center and parallels. 2.8.12 In threaded joint between pipe and flange, the length of thread on the pipe shall be that the end of the pipe comes short to reach flange's gasket by 1.5 to 3.0mm who screwed-in. Otherwise shorten the length of thread in cutting off. 2.8.13 The bolt holes of flanges to be welded to pipes shall be located symmetrically from vertical center line in horizontal piping line, unless otherwise indicated in the drawing. 2.8.14 Seal welding of threaded parts shall be performed after the part is screwed- in completely without using paste or oil and fully cleaned with benzene, etc. and dried out. Reinforcement of seal weld bead shall cover completely the remaining thread. 2.8.15 Piping works shall be accurately performed in checking horizontal and vertical directions and mutual distances between parallel lines, using level transit, plummet, etc. 2.8.16 When gaskets installed, torque acting on gasket should not give any damage to gaskets. 2.8.17 Opening such as flanged joints of pump, compressor, etc shall be kept covered with thin metal plate or other blinds to prevent dust and/or foreign matters from entering into the machine until the piping is connected there. 2.8.18 If works using fire are to be performed in the vicinity of instrument control or power cable duct, an appropriate protection means shall be provided in advance, in order not to damage the cables. 2.8.19 When works are done in the vicinity of piping made of, or lined with special materials such as plastics, rubber, glass, etc:, care shall be taken not to give damage by fire, impact, etc. 2.8.20 Piping support works shall be performed in accordance with "Engineering Specification Piping Materials (SPC-0804.02-50.02)" 2.8.21 During pipe erection stainless steel piping shall be protected from cutting operations from adjacent carbon steel piping to ensure no carbon contamination. SPC-0804.02-96.51 PIPING PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED PAGE: 12 OF 15 CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION REV: D2 3.0 INSPECTION Inspection for piping construction works shall be in accordance with "Fabrication Inspection and Testing of Piping (SPC-0804.02-50.06)" & Engineering Specification for Pressure Test (SPC-0804.02-96.52) 4.0 CLEANING OF PIPING Cleaning of piping shall be in accordance with "Work Procedure for Piping Cleaning & Flushing" (to be issued later) 5.0 HYDROSTATIC AND PNEUMATIC TESTS OF PIPING Hydrostatic and pneumatic tests of piping shall be in accordance with Fabrication Inspection and Testing of Piping (SPC-0804.02-50.06), Engineering Specification for Pressure Test (SPC-0804.02-96.52), Hydrostatic Pressure Testing of Piping (SPC-0804.02-96.58) and Pneumatic Test (SPC-0804.02- 96.59). On concealed welds under reinforcing pads a pneumatic test on the reinforcing pads are required prior to do the hydro-test in accordance with Leak Test Procedure for Re-inforcing Pad (SES-PR.02-99-0201.10-3500-20).
