With respect to displaying the product status on packaging labeling, customers are generally concerned regarding two issues: 1. Is the product RoHS compliant? 2. Does the product conform with Pb-free assembly process requirements? The purpose of this application note is to explain changes to the standard Syfer label format to declare RoHS compliance and Pb-free process information. Standard Label Format 0603J0500122KXTX99 NN6655121 Cust Order No C999999 21000 01 MAR 2007 RoHS 2007-03-01 2002 / 95 /EC Packer DCM 2 Level Interconnect XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Max Safe Temp 270 C nd Syfer Part Cust Part No Cust Ord No Batch Number Quantity Date Example of a standard Syfer label with RoHS and lead-free information Syfer Technology Ltd Made in the UK 369753.1 e2 Pb 0603J0500122KXTX99 NN6655121 Cust Order No C999999 21000 01 MAR 2007 RoHS 2007-03-01 2002 / 95 /EC Packer DCM 2 Level Interconnect XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Max Safe Temp 270 C nd Syfer Part Cust Part No Cust Ord No Batch Number Quantity Date Additional date code for China RoHS, referred to in GB/T7408-94 standard. This section on the label has been generated to comply with the requirements defined by IPC/ JEDEC J-STD-609 Marking and Labeling of Components, PCBs and PCBAs to Identify Lead (Pb), Pb-Free and Other Attributes. Section 4.3 defines 2nd Level Interconnect Component Label requirements. The information defines: The Pb-free termination finish category. Syfer components will typically be labeled with the following (depending on customer order requirements): e3 - Sn. e4 - Precious Metal. That the 2nd level interconnect (refer to IPC/ JEDEC J-STD-609) terminal finish of components are Pb-free. The maximum temperature that the components should attain during assembly. IPC/ JEDEC J-STD-609 is available at http://www.jedec.org/download/search/JSTD-609.pdf Customer Specific Labels Where customers define specific labeling requirements, the RoHS compliant symbol and Pb-free process information will be added onto the label (space permitting) or onto a separate label attached to the packaging.
