    Descriptio.n: The sensor controller consist of the intrinsically safe sensor power supply' and data
    capturing circuit and a non-intrinsically safe microcontroller and data communication circuit. The
    intrinsically safe circuit is supplied with intrinsically safe power from a certified 18 V power supply. The
    power to each of the sernsorsare fed directly from the power supply via a current limiting resistor. Power
    to the rest of the ~lectronJ~Qircuit is regulated down to 5.5 V. Separation between the intrinsically safe
    circuit and the non-in"trinsfcallysafe circuit is achieved with physical separation of the tracks on the PCB.
    Coupling of the data is achieved by means of opto-co~plers to maintain the electrical separation required.

    The non-IS side of {tte circuit is supplied with power from a non-certified source with no electrical
    couplingpath to the IS powersourc~.. The controlleris associatedapparatusand will be installedin a
    safe location when used in a surface installation.
