Detailed Explanations: Access comprehensive, in-depth information about Usability and Accessibility issues including descriptions, explanations, examples and links to further information. Page Previewers: Debug your pages by previewing them with greyscales or by linearizing them, directly when you edit them with Dreamweaver. LIFT runs on Macromedia Dreamweaver MX (6.1), on Dreamweaver and UltraDev MX and version 4 of those programs. On Dreamweaver MX (and UltraDev MX) it runs on Windows, MacOS9 and MacOS X. On Dreamweaver 4 and UltraDe v 4 LIFT runs on Windows and MacOS9. The upgraded version of Dreamweaver MX (6.1) is available from Macromedia Update Center and it is free for all Macromedia customers. If you are using Dreamweaver 4.0 (or UltraDev 4.0), in order to obtain more accurate results we suggest you install the Dreamweaver 4.01 update and/or the UltraDev 4.01 update. These updates are free. Known Issues in Current Version Please visit our site at www.usablenet.com to see if there are free upgrades available. Follow the links to "LIFT for Dreamweaver" and then "Release Notes". We are actively developing the product. On Dreamweaver MX 6.1 (Windows version only), in the "Evaluate" window of LIFT, selections done on first item in the Page list and in the Test list do not work when selecting for the first time the first item of the list. To overcome this problem, please select another item in the list, and then select again the first item. We strongly recommend you upgrade to Dreamweaver MX 6.1. Please remember to use the Extension Manager to disable LIFT before upgrading Dreamweaver. Then upgrade Dreamweaver. And finally enable LIFT again. When using LIFT, please wait until it has finished loading its modules and data (i.e. wait until the hourglass disappears). If you use the windows controls (buttons, menus) before LIFT has finished loading them, errors may occur. To recover from these errors close the window and reopen it again. Sometimes you need to restart Dreamweaver. When using the Evaluate or Monitor window, and selecting an issue, the selection in the Editor (Design View or Split View) is not always accurate. Especially if the selected objects are part of the HEAD of the document or if they are nested inside the OBJECT tags. The Code View of the Editor is always correct, though. When analyzing pages that contain Dreamweaver library items, the selection and the Fix Wizard are not always working properly. If you detach the library item (button Detach From Original in Property Inspector) and run again the evaluation, LIFT works properly. With the Macintosh version of LIFT, errors may occur evaluating local sites or folders with the "Evaluate" window when there are folders or files with names containing some special characters (e.g. names like "File*" or "Folder?"). You need to rename your disk, files or folders so that their name does not contain these special characters. Suspect characters are asterisks ("*") or question marks ("?"). On Dreamweaver MX, if you collapse and then expand LIFT windows, they are not restored to their original size. You need to restart Dreamweaver to restore their original size. List of changes in version 2.0: LIFT 2.0 offers full support for Dreamweaver 4 and Dreamweaver MX templates. In particular, tests that fail on templates do not trigger the same issue on documents based on those templates. This change results in a big reduction of total number of generated issues. More reliable evaluations and loading of existing results. Improved performance on some tests. LIFT 2.0 offers support for Dreamweaver cloacked directories. In particular, every evaluation launched with LIFT will ignore cloacked directories. This change also results in a smaller number of generated issues. Improved accessibility of generated reports. Fixed bugs on report customization features. XML reports now adopt a more general DTD file, with specific attributes that simply writing XSLT sheets; the DTD file is included in the report being generated. The same report format is produced by LIFT Machine, an enterprise- level tool. Missing tests added: "Repeated link image should have valid/equivalent ALT". New UsableNet approval icons. Many fixes/improvements on various tests. Other minor bugs fixed. List of changes in version 1.4.1: LIFT 1.4.1 runs also on the upgraded version of Dreamweaver MX, called "Macromedia Dreamweaver MX Updater for Contribute". Users of previous versions of LIFT that upgrade Dreamweaver MX should also upgrade LIFT to version 1.4.1. Otherwise some parts of LIFT's user interface will not work properly. Other minor bugs fixed. List of changes in version 1.4: A new set of tests covering the W3C/WAI Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 Priority 2 has been added. Lists in "Evaluate" and "Customize Guidelines" have now normal scrollbars. Those windows have also a new layout. There are two new Fix Wizards covering links and D-Links. They can be used to edit the label of the link and their HREF and TITLE attributes. LIFT offers two Accessibility Previews. The first shows a linearized version of a page, showing the page content as it would be displayed by a textual browser or described by a speaking browser. The second one displays a page without colors (it works only with the Windows version of LIFT and with Internet Explorer). Improved performance of "Evaluate": faster, less memory being used, faster saving and loading of results. Other minor bugs fixed. List of changes in version 1.3: Full support of Dreamweaver MX on Windows, MacOS X and MacOS 9. Improved performance of "Evaluate": faster, less memory being used, faster writing and reading of results. More robust handling of issues. Now, issues generated by Evaluate and Monitor are still valid (i.e. you can click on it and the Editor will refresh correctly) even if you edit the document. However if you add or remove an HTML element similar to the one addressed by the issue, then LIFT will be confused. (For example: an issue on a TABLE element in a page is valid until you add or remove TABLE elements). Improved the documentation of LIFT. Online help pages now use CSS (Cascade Style Sheet) formatting rules and use less space. Removed all italics text. The PDF version of the manual has been improved in its layout, contents, and a detailed index has been added. Fixed a bug dealing with URLs containing the apostrophe character. Improved the description of some test (for example, the one testing validity of ALT of APPLET, testing validity of OBJECT content). Other minor bugs fixed. List of changes in version 1.2: Accessibility tests reorganized: separated the Section 508 tests from the W3C WCAG ones; consequently changed the default settings. For this reason, if you upgrade LIFT from a previous version the new Guidelines that you might have defined will be mapped to 508 tests by default. If you changed the factory-defined guidelines (e.g. "Section 508") then after upgrading your changes will be lost. Factory-defined guidelines in version 1.2 have changed to reflect the new organization of tests. Fixed bugs in some of the tests. Added tests for forms, complex tables, Flash objects, Jump Menus. ALT Editor: redesigned for improved usability and performance. Fix Wizards: redesigned all the Wizards for handling tables; added Wizards for handling complex tables, for handling forms, for handling Flash objects. Added the "autoscroll" behavior to the Evaluate window. Reporting: XML reports are generated correctly on MacOS. Other minor bugs fixed. List of changes in version 1.1.1 (this version was released for MacOS only): Fixed an issue that sometimes caused Monitor panel to show data out of line. New autoscrolling feature in Evaluate window. The new window Registration Code can be used to insert the correct registration code if failed during installation. The same window shows the registration code if needed. Improved performance of ALT Editor and minor fixes. List of changes in version 1.1: XML reporting. New guideline w3c/wcag 1.0 tests. Improved performance during saving and loading evaluation results. Reduced memory usage. Fixed bugs on detection of composition images. When using the LIFT Help system, the help pages are correctly opened. Other minor bugs fixed.
