Dear Reader

Welcome to the 2008 catalogue for Psytech South Africa.

The past year saw a significant increase in the number of online users of Psytech products.
Considerable improvements to the functionality of the online testing and reporting platform are being
implemented, making the online option even more attractive, especially for users (psychologists and
psychometrists) starting a new practice. The 360 degree appraisal tool is now integrated with the
online assessment system, significantly improving ease of use and making the benefits of this powerful
tool more easily available to users.

The cost per use of the online option is higher, but access to the online system is free.

Users of the GeneSys Integrated Assessment system benefit from reports that can be generated at no
cost. Users need to consider this benefit when deciding whether the financial outlay for the GeneSys
software is worthwhile. A new version of GeneSys will be rolled out soon, with significant improvements,
particularly with regard to data recovery, automatic updating of the software and data management. In
these days of power failures, the data recovery features are especially important.

Psytech users who have not undergone formal training in the use of the tests or the assessment
software are strongly encouraged to consider this training. Product-specific training is not a
requirement for access to the products (registration with the HPCSA is). However, it is not a good idea
to proceed with using psychometric tests without having undergone specific training related to those
tests. Even registered professionals can make mistakes in the compiling of batteries. The ethical code
for psychology emphasizes the need for users to be trained on the instruments they use.

Psytech South Africa still encourages users to approach us for with their validation, reliability and
fairness research needs. We are equipped with the necessary software to do these studies. However,
users are reminded that pre-selection can have a serious effect on such studies, and therefore such
research needs to be properly planned. Please approach us at the design stage of the research, not at
the last minute.

We also call on users to respect copyright on the pencil and paper materials. Copyright violation is not
only unprofessional, it is also illegal.

If you have any questions regarding our product range, please do not hesitate to phone and speak to
one of our consultants.

Kind regards

Nanette Tredoux
Conditions of access to Psytech instruments in South Africa 3

The Psytech tests and questionnaires are psychological instruments, and their use is regulated by law,
much in the same way as the use of certain scheduled medicines is controlled. Psychological tests may
only be used under the supervision of a registered psychologist.

We require the signature of a registered psychologist when test materials are ordered.

If a company does not have a psychologist, Psytech SA can refer the client to a registered person or
one of our own psychologists can perform the service. We must, however, point out that the Health
Professions Act and the Professional Board for Psychology determine the restrictions on the distribution
and use of psychological test materials. We can not supply materials to persons who may not legally
use them, but we will do everything we can to put you in touch with registered professionals who know
our products.

If one of our psychologists acts as supervising psychologist for a client, we insist on regular
consultations to make sure that the test results are being used appropriately. The tests must be
administered by a person who is legally entitled to do so, and in practice that means a psychometrist,
registered counsellor (psychometrics) or psychologist. If a company does not have such persons in
their employ, we can assist in making the appropriate arrangements to ensure that proper testing
practice is adhered to.

It is our view that the interpretation and feedback of test results will always remain an activity that
requires specialised training, and in that regard we support and adhere to the regulations of the Health
Professions Council.

Apart from the fact that we insist on proper professional supervision of our tests and
questionnaires, we try to make the instruments as accessible as possible:
! There is no compulsory training in the use of the instruments for registered psychologists.
Training is, however, available and can be arranged on an in-house basis for companies.
Psytech SA also offers open courses for professionals on the use of its tests.
! There is no annual license fee to cover support and research. Basic research is done free of
charge as part of our service, provided that the results can be disseminated to other users of
Psytech instruments. Research which is aimed at answering specific business questions for the
client, is done as a billable consulting service.
! We make the GeneSys test administration software available at a reasonable price including all
the tests and reports, and are prepared to sell small numbers of test booklets and answer
sheets at a time. We also sell scoring credits in small numbers to customers who prefer to order
      in small amounts.
! In spite of the drop in the value of the Rand, and the fact that we deal in materials licensed
from overseas, we have kept our price increases to the absolute minimum.
! Test booklets are sold, not rented. Technical manuals can be downloaded from the Web at no
      charge.
! Academic institutions qualify for a very substantial discount on the materials and the software,
       subject to certain conditions.

Please see our website for more information.

                             Psytech instruments

Psytech’s personality questionnaires offer the user freedom of choice in terms of the level of detail and
theoretical approach to measurement.

This section will present an overview of the Psytech SA’s personality tests in terms of the scales
measured and the profiles that are produced by the GeneSys software. The narrative reports produced
by the software provide much more in-depth information than can be presented here. For examples of
the narrative reports, please contact our offices or visit the Psytech international website at
www.psytech.co.uk.

Personality in detail: 15FQ+ and OPP

For a detailed assessment of personality, two comprehensive personality questionnaires are available:
the 15FQ+ and the Occupational Personality Profile or OPP. The instruments are different in theoretical
approach and the constructs that they target, but both are sound, comprehensive general-purpose
personality questionnaires developed to rigorous standards.

The primary profile of the 15FQ+ looks like this:

In response to requests from clients, Psytech SA has produced a special report for GeneSys 3, which
enables users to generate a competency-based report dealing with ten competencies that are
important in customer interface roles. This report can be produced if the respondent has completed
the following test battery:

! Occupational Personality Profile (OPP)
! General Reasoning Test Battery (GRT2) - Verbal, Numerical and Abstract reasoning.
! Clerical Checking test (from the Clerical test battery CTB2).

The report produces a profile of ten expected competencies, and then covers every competency in
detail:

! Definition of the competency
! Typical role where the competency is important
! The respondents strengths with regard to this competency
! Development areas the respondent may have with regard to this competency
! Additional observations regarding the respondents personality and abilities, that may affect
       performance on this competency.

All GeneSys 3 users can obtain the Customer Interface Competency report at no cost in the
following way: Test the respondents on GeneSys using the above battery, send the exported data
to us. Psytech SA will generate the report and send it back to you.

Eventually the report will be made available to all GeneSys users as a free upgrade to your system.
The report is also available to pencil and paper users through our bureau service, at the normal
bureau service prices for a battery using five credits. Example reports can be downloaded from our
website.

battery that can also include personality questionnaires and ability
assessments. When doing development counselling in the workplace, 360

Who is the GRT2 for?
The GRT2 is a broad range ability test, which has been developed to assess across a wide
range of ability levels. It is particularly useful for identifying staff who are likely to benefit from
further training and development, and those who demonstrate promotion potential. In addition,
it is useful for assessing whether applicants have the minimum level needed for a particular job.

Spatial Reasoning (SRT2)
Measures spatial ability from two perspectives:
!Visually constructing a three dimensional object
!Visually relating an object to its pre-constructed patterned form.

The test consists of a number of diagrams which assess the ability to visualise shapes and
objects in three dimensions.

The items have been selected to represent a wide range of shapes like cubes, pyramids, cones,
rhomboids and an innovative variety of other multi-facetted shapes.
Therefor, users can be confident that they are measuring a broad spatial/diagrammatic ability.

Mechanical Reasoning (MRT2)
Measures the ability to understand mechanical concepts and physical principles in operation.
The items have been selected from a wide range of areas (including optics, electricity, fluids and
mechanics), so users can be confident that they are measuring a broad aptitude including
mechanical comprehension. .

The Visual Acuity Test (VAC2)
The Visual Acuity Test was specifically designed to be administered on computer.
It measures the ability (and disposition) to work with highly detailed technical material such as
wiring or circuit diagrams. Respondents have to follow a single pathway through a complex maze.
The test assesses visual and attentional capacity which is relatively independent of general
ability. The VAC2 has been specifically developed to assess apprentices in roles which involve
checking, repairing and replacing electrical/electronic circuitry and components.

The JTI measures people’s thinking styles and the way they deal with information. This
questionnaire is particularly useful for counseling, guidance, team building and examining how
people will interact in group settings.

With its emphasis on the relative strengths and weaknesses of each psychological type, Jung’s
theory of personality constitutes an important and valuable component of many training and
development programmes.

                      Genesys integrated assessment software
With GeneSys version 3 you can:

! Administer and score the full range of Psytech tests on a personal computer. Administration is
done on-screen, and scoring is done by entering the responses for tests that were completed
       using pencil and paper.
! Generate a range of high quality narrative reports on the test results, using a wide range of
comparison groups, including many South African norm groups. Examples of these reports can
be downloaded off the Psytech International web site.
! Test several persons at once using the remote administrator module (included with GeneSys 3)
on a network or several stand-alone computers. This program generates a response file which is
       imported into GeneSys for scoring.
! Make use of our internet-based testing facility (available soon to GeneSys users) for remote
testing in situations where the remote administrator module can not be installed.
! Create customised batteries of tests, by combining any subtests from the standard test
batteries. Use these customised batteries on your remote administator module.
! Create customised reports to go with your customised batteries.
! Create in-house norms on the data you have collected on the system, thus ensuring that you
are using the most appropriate and fair basis for comparison.
! Match respondents to ideal profiles.
! Export data to standard spreadsheet format for further statistical analysis, presentation
       graphics or validation studies.
! Make use of the downloads sections on the Psytech SA and Psytech International web sites to
keep your system up to date with the latest versions of the questionnaires and norm files

Using GeneSys 3 is economical:

! All the Psytech tests are included.
! Dongle credits are deducted only when the test is scored. There is no additional charge for
reports. You can generate several different reports at no extra charge.
! The facility to test on several computers at once is included.
! Scoring credits are sold on a sliding scale, and significant savings can be achieved by buying
        credits in bulk.
! For large-volume testers, annual unlimited-use contracts are available that enable the user to
fix the cost of scoring tests for a year. This can help you cope with unexpected large
assessment projects under fixed budget conditions.

GeneSys 3 is available to tertiary academic institutions at a very substantial discount .
Contact us for more information, or visit the Psytech SA web site for details.

Psychological test. Users have to take full professional responsibility for the way they use
the online facility.

                      Internet-based access to Psytech tests

All Psytech tests are now available for online administration

What does online administration mean?
Any registered test user can now administer Psytech tests onscreen. This means that users who are
new to Psytech's tests can now also have access to computer-based test administration, on-screen
scoring and immediate electronic reporting, without having to purchase the GeneSys system. There is
no cost for access to the system, all we require is that you must be registered with the Health
Professions Council of South Africa to use the tests you are interested in. Administration must be done
supervised: a registered test user must be present when the tests are administered.

Do I need special software?
Online testing is now administered via the Psytech “Secure Rich Client” software, called GeneSys
Online Data Manager or GODM. This software is downloadable from the Psytech International website
at no cost.

I usually use pencil and paper tests. How can this benefit me?
Even if you normally use pencil and paper tests, you can still log in to the online system and score
your own answer sheets. This gives you full control over the scoring, and means you can obtain your
results virtually immediately.

What about South African norms?
The South African test versions and norms have been implemented on the online system, and are now
available to South African users.

How do I get the results?
The results are emailed to an email address that you specify.

Who can apply?
Registered psychologists and psychometrists registered for independent practice are given access on
request, after their registration status has been confirmed with the HPCSA. Psychometrists registered
for supervised practice can not be given access on their own behalf we require the signature of their
supervising psychologist on the order form.

What are the costs?
A charge is levied for every report requested. Users purchase credits specially for online use. There is
no dongle or special software, the Internet-based system keeps a record of your credit use. The cost of
a credit is determined by the number of credits purchased per transaction. Tests administered or
scored online, use more credits than tests administered or scored using GeneSys software. However,
the online option is considerably more economical for the user than bureau scoring. Note that unlike
the GeneSys system, where the user pays for scoring but not for reports, every online report has a
cost attached to it.

What about unsupervised Internet-based testing? Is this available?
Unfortunately, the ethical code for Psychologists in South Africa requires that all assessment must take
place within the context of a clearly defined professional relationship. The Professional Board in 2003
also ruled that all computer-based and internet-based interactions with clients must conform to the
ethical code. For this reason, among others, we do not make the tests available for unsupervised
Internet-based administration in South Africa. We apply this restriction to protect our clients, the
respondents and ourselves.
How do I get access to Psytech Internet-based testing? 31

Contact the Psytech office. You will be emailed an order form. Fax this back to us, stating the number
of credits you require. Once we have checked your registration status and set you up on the system,
you have access. Payment can be done by bank transfer or credit card.

                    Psytech's 360 Degree Appraisal Manager
After receiving constructive feedback from our local and international colleagues Psytech's 360 Degree
appraisal system has been reconstructed. The system is proving to be simple and easy to use.
Access is available through the online system making managing your 360 degree project convenient
and suitable for administration remotely.

Should you wish to open an online account please contact the office and a consultant will gladly create
an account and load credits as per requirements. One credit is used per rater.

The system enables you to use the Psytech Competency Model or you can customise the system to
assess and report on your company's unique competencies. Each project must include the individual
being appraised as well as one other rater. The system will allow you to customise text for both the
email invitations and the welcome screen that raters will view. You can track the completion progress
of your project easily through the online system.

The Psytech Competency Model includes the following competencies:

You can select the competencies that you need, and for each competency identify and select the
behavioural rating items you would like to use.

When using your own competencies it is recommended that a thorough job analysis is conducted prior
to embarking on the project. If you require, job analysis and 360 project management are Psytech
service offerings.

Once all raters have completed the online assessment a user friendly report is generated quickly. The
report is comprehensive and provides comparisons of all the raters involved. This information can be
made anonymous at the onset of your project.
                                                                                                         33

What does it cost?

You only pay for reports. Psytech's 360 degree appraisal system costs 1 credit per rater included
in a report. Credits are sold on a sliding scale depending on the volume purchased at a time
(Please see our price list for the price of the number of credits you require). A typical report would
include five raters, and thus would cost five credits. Large 360 degree appraisal projects can be
managed very economically using this system. Because the management software doesn't cost
you anything, this system is well suited to the consultant in private practice. You can pay for the
credits using your credit card.

What does a credit cost?

Consulting rates vary between R 550 and R 970 per hour depending on the complexity of the work
undertaken. The rate is negotiable based on the size of project.

Prices exclude VAT.

Please note

360 degree appraisal is a sensitive assessment process aimed at identifying strengths and
development needs. It should be used in conjunction with thorough job analysis and competency
design, and it should be sensitively communicated to all stakeholders, before a project is
undertaken. While appraisal instruments are not psychological tests, they should be managed
professionally with due regard to confidentiality. Validity studies on customized competencies are
recommended. Particular care must be taken with communicating the project to all stakeholders,
and obtaining informed consent from all persons to be appraised, and all raters who take part in
the project.

Psytech SA does not condone the use of psychological tests or 360 degree appraisal
systems to identify individuals for retrenchment or dismissal.
