A Guaranteed Marketing Tip to Increase Your Sales
Know What It Is You're Selling 'Before' You Sell It!
It might seem a kind of obvious marketing tip really. After all, it sounds pretty commonsensical (is that a word?) that you can’t really ’sell’ something if you don't’ know what it is beforehand. But I’m amazed at how many folks get it wrong. And just to prove that even the most successful marketers are guilty of it, let’s take an example of a product you can find right as one of the Secret of Magnetic Sponsoring's Insider Tips. The Ultimate Guide to Wordpress Plugins is technically a very comprehensive, extremely detailed guide to all the various plugins available through Wordpress. Not only does Cenay (one of our very own ‘Insiders‘) know Wordpress inside out, but she has spent years testing and tracking various plugins on a multitude of blogs, for numerous customers, both corporate and personal. Of course, that type of service comes at a price most folks could never afford. And even if you could, you’d have to stand in line and wait till she could fit you in. Not great in this day and age where we all want what we want and we want it now. So after being bogged down with more requests than she could handle, Cenay put all the information that she personally uses for her private clients into The Ultimate Guide. Now, those who couldn’t afford her personal services, or who couldn’t wait until she had a free slot would still be able to benefit from her experience and knowledge. All for the sake of a measly $47. Problem solved. Or so Cenay thought. The trouble is that The Ultimate Guide To Wordpress Plugins isn’t really what Cenay is selling. What her clients get, (and what you get if you implement what she tells you in the book), is a blog that has the Search Engines crawling all over it and just waiting to pounce so it can feed your content to the masses, and when those masses arrive, they keep coming back, time after time after time. The 'Undercover' blog was built solely on following Cenay’s Wordpress set-up video and installing some of the plugins recommended in her book. As a total WordPress-Phobic, I had no idea of what I was doing. And when it came to plugins I had even less idea of ‘why’ I was doing it. But I know Cenay, so I followed her advice. The result? The blog was indexed in days, without any effort in creating links for the search engines to follow. New posts gets indexed within minutes. Within the first couple of weeks it was ((and still is) ranking on the first page of Google for some very cool keywords. Over 50% of the traffic comes from the Search Engines for those very same keywords. The rest is made up of returning visitors and people who found it from one of the links that have since been put in place. About the only ‘maintenance is writing new posts. Updating plugins, getting rid of spam, etc. takes less than 5 minutes. There is a growing band of visitors who come back time after time, who sign up to the list, send emails, ask advice, click the links and, ultimately, put money in my bank account.
Now that is what Cenay is in fact selling. But it makes for quite a long title and unfortunately, unless you’re Frank Kern, there’s no way to let folks know that’s what they’re actually buying, without sounding like some over - hyped, get rich quick, gibberish. Let me just point out btw, in case you think this Guide will make you into an overnight blogging sensation, it won’t! You do still have to actually write your own content. The plugin that writes and posts, honest, original, valuable content to your site hasn’t yet been invented. Alas, too few people actually take the time to figure out exactly what it is they're selling. Remember, customers aren't interested in your product. Their interest lies solely in what your product can do for them. What problem does it solve? What benefit will it bring them? What will be their end result of buying your product? In the case of “The Ultimate Guide to Wordpress Plugins”, the customer gets a better ranking, more traffic hungry, easier to maintain, selling machine. If you're into weight loss products, you're really selling 'slimmer' customers. If you're selling a dog training book, your real product is a well trained dog. We could go on and on, but you get the picture right? Figure out what it is you are really selling before you start selling it. It's a guaranteed way of making more sales.
