With over 25 years experience Bury College Apprenticeships provide outstanding training opportunities
to both employers and learners by combining quality employment with exceptional work-based training
programmes. We currently have over 650 Apprentices working for 450 companies in the local area, and
this brochure highlights just a fraction of the many Bury College Apprentice successes.
Adult Apprenticeship Apprentice

successful achievement of a contract to deliver Adult
Apprenticeship training in Construction. An increasing Month

Aaron O’Loughlin, who attended All Saints
Catholic School was introduced to the
Apprenticeship scheme during a motivating
presentation from Bury College
Apprenticeships in the customer service
department of PC World Business.
Aaron’s initial reservations about the work involved were unrealised - he completed
the Customer Service Apprenticeship in just six months. Aaron received
outstanding support from his assessor, including individual mentoring and guidance
and group discussions which enabled him to relate the areas covered in
his Apprenticeship to real work experiences.

High flyer Kerry Print, a former pupil of St. James C of E School celebrated a personal
achievement after completing her Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration in an
incredible six months. This is a fantastic achievement as the NVQ Level 3 qualification can take
up to two years to complete!
Kerry, an employee with Adam F Greenhalgh since March 2006, is the latest in a string of
successful Apprenticeship trainees employed by the Bolton legal company.
Kerry commented “I have really enjoyed the Apprenticeship scheme, and it has helped me to develop
my confidence at work. My assessor has been really supportive and with the help I received I have
been able to advance in my career and follow a route which will allow me to fulfil my career goals.”
Kerry’s manager Jean Mellor added, “Adam F Greenhalgh have had a close relationship with Bury College Apprenticeships for over
ten years. Kerry’s achievements have been excellent and as a company the Apprenticeship scheme has allowed us to demonstrate our
commitment to staff training and development.”

ACCELERATE YOUR CAREER PROSPECTS
Wired for Success
Bury College Apprenticeships helped Michael Sawzcuk take the first steps in what is
sure to be a very successful IT career by securing him a job at Broad Oak High School.
Michael, a former pupil of Castlebrook High School commented “The opportunity sounded
really exciting so I contacted Bury College Apprenticeships to apply for the role. I received
excellent assistance from the team in applying for the vacancy and I was successful in
obtaining the position at Broad Oak.”
Having successfully completed an NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeship in Information Technology,
Michael has progressed on to the Advanced Apprenticeship. Completing the Advanced
Apprenticeship will allow Michael to further his career in Information Technology and
enhance his skills.
Michael is already putting his knowledge to good use as he is supervising another member
of staff who is also completing an Apprenticeship.
Apprentice goes from
strength to strength
Local girl Ruth Brooks, a former pupil of Woodhey High School is going
from strength to strength thanks to a rewarding Apprenticeship
programme with Bury College.
Ruth, having completed her NVQ Level 2 in Sports and Recreation, has
shown enthusiasm and commitment throughout the Apprenticeship, and
this dedication has resulted in a swift promotion from a part time Leisure
Attendant at Ramsbottom Pool and Fitness Centre to full time Head
Attendant at Bury Castle Leisure Centre.
Bryn Woodcock, Operations Manager at Castle Leisure Centre speaks highly of Ruth, “Ruth has shown commitment to further her career
by going on an Apprenticeship with Bury College. These attributes, combined with excellent reports from her College Assessor, have
allowed for the promotion she has received.” With a sunny disposition and positive outlook, Ruth will continue to be successful in her
chosen career path, and plans to build on her Bury College Apprenticeship by progressing onto a Management role in the future.

qualifications I have completed filled in gaps in my knowledge in connection
with the theoretical aspect of hairdressing.”

Sports and Recreation
Apprentices
Bury College Apprenticeships and the Bolton Council Sport Health
Inclusion Services have enjoyed a flourishing partnership which has
supported five young people across the borough to complete an NVQ Level 2
in Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations.
The majority of the young learners had not pursued further education or
employment since leaving school and relished the opportunity to take part in
a 12 month Sport and Recreation Apprenticeship programme. Since starting the programme they have attended Bury College, and
worked within the Sport, Health, and Inclusion team gaining invaluable work experience within the leisure industry. The five learners will
further their skills and qualifications achieved through their NVQ Level 2 in a variety of different roles.
Lewiss Tong and Leah Allsop are undertaking voluntary work for Raleigh International in South America; both Abi O’Brien and
James Taylor are continuing their studies, and Natalie Dawson, having applied for a variety of roles, has decided on a career in the RAF.
