 By the end of 2005, the total finished construction area were amounted 500
million m2, among which, residential took 60%, 300 million m2;

 Between 2001 and 2005,the accumulative investment on infrastructure
improvement, were 325.72 billion RMB (41.7 billion UDS),with annual growth rate
of 12.6%,which were largely put on new construction;

  energy consumption of the world
 The 4th largest economy but ranked 2nd in the total energy consumption

 Building Sector consumes 45% of the total energy
  Building operation consumes 27.6% of the total energy
  Manufacturing and transportation of construction material consumes
   16.7% of the total energy

  99% of the exiting buildings
  95% new buildings
 can NOT meet energy saving standards

 In 2003, only 5% of 2 billion m2 new buildings constructed meet
 energy saving performance standard

 But 20 billion m2 more new buildings in the coming 15 years impose
 rising demand for clean energy

 China is constructing buildings usually with high energy
consumption on a large scale

 While the energy use in heating per unit of residential building is
2-3 times of that of the developed countries with similar climate

                2.2 New National Priority
Promoting energy-efficient and green buildings becomes a new
government priority because:

 Pollution problems:

SEPA estimates that damages from pollution total are nearly 10% of
annual GDP

Electricity production, largely fueled by coal, accounted for 34.2% of
China’s air pollution in 2003.

Production of China’s principal construction materials, cement and
steel, cause pollution and contamination including dust and toxics.

 Energy Shortage:

  China per capita resource of
      Farm land is 1/3 of the world average;
      Forest area is 1/5 of the world average;
      Water is 1/4 of the world average;
      Petroleum Oil is 1/10 of the world average;
      Natural gas is 1/22 of the world average.
  Chinese government goal is to reduce energy consumption by 50
  percent in 10 years

        2.3 New Government Initiatives

Key Initiatives of Promoting Energy Efficiency Building in
China is “11th Five-year Plan (2006-2010)” :

a) Improving and strictly implementing the Designing standards of
   energy efficiency buildings;

b)   Renovating the existing buildings ;

c) Promoting and encouraging using new wall materials and
   energy efficiency products

d) Renovating the governmental buildings and adapting energy
   saving products in those project.


e) Green lighting --- High efficiency lighting system will be
   promoted in the public facilities, hotels, shopping malls,
   commercial buildings and residential buildings.


f)   Aimed at saving 110 million tons of coal equivalent in building
     sector.


g) Constructing 100 model projects national wide to promote
   green buildings

 With the emphasis put by the state on energy conservation and
  renewable energy, Green Building industry will grow dramatically.
 In cope with Energy shortage and environmental problem, China
  encourages green buildings and already promulgated series of
  regulations and set up many model projects in the field.
 The surging demand for energy efficiency and environmental friendly
  technology and products drives foreign key players rushing to China.
 Participating the trade show and getting involved in the planned model
  project as well as the government financed project will help you overpass
  the great wall caused by cultural and social difference.
