Document Delivery Service for Distance Learners
(formerly known as Inter-Library Loans)

The Inter-Library Loan Service is now called the Document Delivery Service.
Details of this service are available on our Library Services for Distance Learners web page
at http://library.ulster.ac.uk/info/distance.php. Click on Document Delivery Service
(Formerly known as Inter-Library Loans).

The Document Delivery Service can be used by Distance Learners to request copies of articles
in journals which are not held electronically by the University of Ulster. Before requesting a
journal article, please check our listing of full text electronic journals at
http://tdnet.com/ulster_athens If you require an article from a journal that is not available to
you in electronic format, you should then use this service – this includes journals held in printed
format in one of the campus libraries.

• The Document Delivery service is currently restricted to requests for journal articles only.
• Complete the Request Form. To access this form:
Go to the Library Services for Distance Learners web page at
    http://library.ulster.ac.uk/info/distance.php
Click on Document Delivery Service (Formerly known as Inter-Library Loans).
Click on the Place Request form link in the paragraph beginning “All students registered on
    Distance Learning courses…”

• Enter your Library Borrower Number when requested and then click on Logon.
Your borrower number is printed above the barcode on your registration card. If your number
begins with the letter S or E enter the letter followed by the number, e.g. E00031894. If your
number begins with the letter D enter the number without the D, e.g. 06024505. Please
contact Library staff if you are unsure of your borrower number.

• On the next screen, click on the OR: Request a book or journal from another library link.
• Step 1: Complete the request form. Please note again that you can only use the form to
    request journal articles.

• Step 2: Select COLERAINE (Document Delivery) as the Collection Site.
• Step 3: Change the last useful date (optional).
• Step 4: Print off a copy of the completed request.
• Step 5: Click on the Confirm button.
• Step 6: Sign the Copyright declaration on the copy you have printed.
• Step 7: Fax or post the completed form with your signature to the Document Delivery office at
    Coleraine (contact details below).

• One form must be completed for each item requested. To make new requests click on
Place Request at the top of the screen.

                                                                                             Page 2

                                                .
• Remember to click on Logout, at the top of the screen, when you have finished requesting
    items.

• Ensure bibliographic details are complete and accurate.
• Sign a copyright declaration form for each item requested.
• Where possible, documents will be emailed to you. You need to view the document within
14 days of receiving the email. Alternatively, documents will be posted out to you.
• Most requests will be satisfied within one week but this depends on the article being readily
available either from the University Library or the British Library. Some requests may take
longer so please allow as much time as you can.
