Technical Features and Benefits
      he Haas GR-510 Gantry Router is an American-made machine that combines innovative

T     design principles, unique control features and high-quality construction to make it simple,
      versatile and affordable.

The Haas CNC control is designed to be easy to use without referencing the manual, using steps
that are logical to operators, and utilizing built-in software that makes producing parts – not
programming – the operator‟s key thought.

Featuring rigid steel construction, the GR-510, like all Haas machines, provides a very stable
platform – as well as the speed to cut lighter materials. Haas Gantry models are being used to
machine materials ranging from sheets of steel to aluminum extrusion. The fixed table provides
plenty of support for large and/or heavy workpieces, and heavy-duty linear guides deliver low friction
and extreme accuracy. Brushless servos plus high-pitch ballscrews produce powerful rapids and
reduced cycle times. These features, combined with local distributor service, make the Haas GR-510
the standard for design innovation, quality and affordability.

• 15-hp (11 kW), 10K spindle:
  The standard 10,000-rpm, 40-taper spindle features a powerful 15-hp
  (11 kW) vector drive system that gives the GR-510 plenty of power to
  cut aluminum and other metals, as well as the speed necessary for
  cutting wood, plastics and other light materials. The standard 10K
  spindle has grease-packed bearings (as does the optional high-torque
  5K spindle), providing contamination-free cutting of carbon fiber, foam
  and wood.
• 5' x 10' (1.5 m x 3.1 m) fixed table:
  The 53” x 122” (1346 mm x 3099 mm) fixed table on the GR-510
  easily supports large, heavy workpieces, and the gantry assembly
  travels the full length of the table on heavy-duty linear guides that
  provide low friction and extreme accuracy. This 1" (25 mm)-thick
  table, machined flat but left blank to allow custom
  fixturing/workholding, is made of 6061 aluminum and has a weight
  capacity up to 6,000 lb (2722 kg).
• Rapids up to 2100 ipm (53 m/min):
  Powerful brushless servos and high-pitch ballscrews combine to produce rapids up to 2100 ipm
  (53 m/min), for faster cycle times and lower cost per part.
• 10-pocket automatic tool changer:
  The unique Haas tool changer utilizes a sinusoidal-motion arm to
  accelerate and decelerate shuttle movement – thus preventing jarring to
  the tools and machine. With only two moving parts, the umbrella tool
  changer offers smooth, reliable action and long life.
• Light curtain:
  The built-in safety system ensures that the traveling gantry is shut down if the system‟s line of
  sight is crossed during operation.
• 5 spare M functions:
  Set up a robotic loader, install a probing system or run a rotary table using these additional user
  interfaces.
• Double-anchored ballscrews:
  Haas uses only premium-quality ballscrews and guides that meet the highest quality standards in
  the industry. Haas ballscrews are anchored at both ends and pre-tensioned, then inspected for
  100% parallelism to the axis guides.
• Hardened-steel bearing packs:
  Haas uses hardened-steel bearing packs rolling on hardened-steel
  ways. Built using the same precision grinding technology utilized in
  bearing manufacturing, they feature zero clearance and full load-
  carrying capacity in all directions.

MACHINE OPTIONS, GR-510 (partial list)

• High-speed or high-torque spindles:
  Choose the optional spindle that best suits your application: a high-torque 5,000-rpm spindle for
  cutting steel (grease-packed); a 15K spindle for slicing through aluminum (air/oil injection).
  Note: 15K spindles drip oil from spindle nose.

• High-speed machining:
  The HSM option provides a powerful tool to reduce cycle
  times and improve accuracy. Using a motion algorithm called
  “acceleration before interpolation,” combined with full look-
  ahead of up to 80 blocks, HSM provides fast contouring feeds
  without distortion of the programmed path. The Haas HSM
  option accepts ISO standard G code, and is a fraction of the
  cost of other high-speed controls.

• Rigid tapping:
  Using an encoder attached directly to the spindle, Z-axis
  motion is synchronized with the spindle‟s rotation. This
  eliminates the need for expensive floating tap holders, and also prevents lead-thread distortion
  and start-thread pullout.

• Visual Quick Code:
  Haas‟ unique Visual Quick Code is a conversational programming
  system that uses a graphical interface to make creating simple G-
  code programs nearly effortless. VQC prompts the operator to fill in
  part dimensions, speeds and feeds, etc., and then generates the
  correct G-code program for the operation. The VQC option also
  includes standard Quick Code, in which English commands, such
  as “spindle forward,” are selected by the operator from a menu,
  and the corresponding G or M code (in this case M03) is then
  inserted into the program.

• Coolant system with 80-gallon (303-liter) tank:
  Our high-capacity coolant tanks are mounted on wheels for easy removal and to facilitate
  cleaning. A separate chip basket and internal baffles prevent chips from reaching the pump. All
  electrical and coolant hose connections to the tank can be removed by hand. The tank lid and
  pump can be lifted up and out without having to remove any screws.

• Steel table:
  Available in either SAE or metric configuration – both of which have a Blanchard-ground surface –
  this 53" x 122" x 1" (1346 mm x 3099 mm x 25 mm) steel table has a 1/2"–13 drilled and tapped
  hole pattern on 4" centers (M12 x 1.75 on 100 mm centers). A total of more than 460 holes makes
  fixturing very easy.

• Vacuum table:
  This 1-inch (25-mm) thick, 122" x 53" (3099 mm x 1346 mm) 6061 aluminum table has a
  machined grid spacing with 2.25" (57 mm) between groove center lines. The table is divided into
  four zones, lengthwise along the X direction, each turned on or off manually with a dumping shut-
  off valve. Each zone is further divided by five ports, which can be left open or plugged for either
  machining multiple parts or controlling the vacuum force. Sealing is accomplished by 1/4" x 3/8"
  (6.35 x 9.5 mm) seal stripping; 100 feet (30.5 m) of seal stripping is included. The stripping can be
  cut and inserted to form any type of sealed area desired. Vacuum pump not included; any
  commercially available vacuum pump can be used. (Note: This optional table is not designed for
  “flow through” or spoilboard applications; contact your Haas distributor for more information.)
• Dust Extraction Provision (DEP):                 Not compatible with MOM, PCOOL options

  Designed for instant removal of air borne particles and related chip type results from dry cutting
  materials like plastics, wood, most foams, carbon fiber, fiberglass, etc. The “DEP” option
  surrounds the spindle area with a full square sheetmetal box and has brushes extending on the
  bottom. A large 6” diameter hose connection provides for extreme vacuum force to pick up all
  debris. A motorized hinging door opens & closes the „clam shell‟ box automatically during tool
  changes providing unattended operation of all dry cutting. Note: users need to provide vacuum
  system and related hose to spindle headstock (including some form of overhead or hanger
  arrangement). We recommend a minimum of 1,000 cfm @ 4” wg static pressure. Note: this option
  adds several seconds to ATC time and is macro driven which locks out ATC FWD/REV keypad
  button.
• Auto air gun:
  Provides a constant air blast to the cutting tool to clear chips safely and automatically. Activated
  by M code, the air blast can be programmed to turn on while the spindle is turning or at the end of
  a cycle. The nozzle is manually adjusted on a pivot angle, and a 6" (152 mm) nozzle extension is
  also available.
• 20-pocket tool changer:
  This popular option not only provides more tools, it also allows larger-diameter tools – 4.75" (121
  mm) – when adjacent pockets are empty. The unique Haas tool changer utilizes a sinusoidal-
  motion arm to accelerate and decelerate shuttle movement, to prevent jarring to the tools and
  machine. With only two moving parts, the umbrella-style tool changer offers smooth, reliable
  action and long life.
• Hard disk drive & Ethernet interface support:
  This option provides great flexibility in program transfer and storage. The 40 GB hard drive has
  ample storage space for program files. The Ethernet component allows quick, easy data
  transmission between your Haas machine and a network or PC, and large files can be accessed
  by multiple machines. High-speed data transfers allow DNC of large files at up to 1000
  blocks/sec. Ethernet interface works with Windows XP, ME, 2000 Pro & Server, NT 4.0, 98 and
  95. IPX/SPX or TCP/IP protocol; easy setup from the control screen.

• 4th- and 5th-axis drives:
  This control option allows the use of 4th- and 5-axis rotary tables for multi-sided machining or
  machining complex contours and shapes, such as impellers. Reduced setups yield increased
  productivity.
• Extended Z-axis clearance:
  This 6" (152 mm) riser gives you better clearance for tall workpieces. May not combine with EZ24
  option.
• 24" Z-axis travel:            Not compatible with 5K spindle option
  The extra 13" (330 mm) of Z travel or 24” total (610 mm) opens up the GR platform to much larger
  parts, and allows greater tool clearance. It may NOT be combined with the 6" riser. The minimum
  distance from spindle nose to table top is extended from 2.5” to 4” (thus extra clearance & travel).

         t the heart of every Haas machining center is a superbly designed control with multiple
         functions and a single purpose: to improve operator productivity. To save operator training
         time, programs generated for existing G-code controls can be loaded and
        run with little or no program modification.
