Main Registration Brochure
I am delighted to invite all members (and of course potential members)
of INSOL Europe, to join us at this year’s congress in Amsterdam from
29 September – 2 October 2005. The technical programme promises
to be extremely interesting and is outlined in this brochure by our
Congress Technical Chairman, Michael Thierhoff. This year we focus
on recent developments in the jurisdictions in Europe, providing a
deeper insight into the differences and comparisons between the
concepts of insolvency regulations throughout Europe.
MARC UDINK The format of the Congress includes a Welcome Drinks
Reception & Dinner on the Thursday night, with the technical sessions
Udink & De Jong,
commencing Friday morning and continuing after lunch. Following a
drinks reception on Friday evening, delegates and guests will have
INSOL Europe free time to take advantage of the many restaurants in the area.
Secretary-General Technical sessions will continue on the Saturday morning followed
by lunch and a free afternoon. The Gala Drinks Reception & Dinner
will be held on the Saturday evening with departure after breakfast on
Accommodation has been reserved at the Okura Hotel, where
we shall be holding the technical sessions and we are once again
requesting that delegates make their own accommodation
arrangements with the hotel directly, using the form attached to
this brochure. The Okura is a 5 star hotel located on the banks of the
Amstel Canal, close to the financial, cultural and entertainment district
of Amsterdam. With the Okura’s state-of-the-art technical facilities
and excellent health & leisure complex, the hotel is considered as one
of the best congress venues in the Netherlands. Amsterdam’s
Schiphol airport is only a 15 minute drive away or can be reached by
the hotel’s shuttle bus service. Amsterdam itself is a colourful city with
a wealth of museums and magnificent 17th and 18th century
merchants houses lining its famous canals. For those who wish to
spend some time around the City, time will be set aside on the
Saturday afternoon to do just that.
I very much look forward to seeing you in Amsterdam.

of the new opportunities and challenges that face the profession, in
particular the enlargement of the European Union and the quickly
changing legal framework in which insolvency and turnaround
The First Morning
After the opening of the conference by the President and Secretary MICHAEL THIERHOFF
General, a key note speaker will welcome members to the conference.
Thierhoff Illy & Partner,
The remaining part of the morning will see two papers from prominent
academics on the subject of ‘Shareholder Rights in Insolvency
Situations’. We are delighted that Professor Angelo Castagnola of 2005 Technical Chairman
Università Bocconi di Milano and Professor Ulrich Haas of the & INSOL Europe
Universität Mainz are to present the pros and cons of considering the Vice President
rights of shareholders in insolvency proceedings and restructurings.
The presentations will prepare the ground for a comprehensive
discussion of the professors with an expert panel and the delegates.
The First Afternoon
The Friday afternoon of the Conference will examine how the biggest
ever enlargement of the European Union, both in terms of scope and
diversity, will affect the insolvency and turnaround professions in both
old and new Member States. A panel session, which will include four
speakers from the new Member States, will discuss the insolvency
regimes of some of the new Member States and the impact
enlargement will have on the future of the profession. To complete the
picture, the panel session will also include a presentation of the paper
prepared for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
on the application of the insolvency laws and procedures within the
new Member States.
The Second Morning
The Saturday morning of the Conference will give members the
opportunity to attend two of four stimulating break out panel
discussions on major topics affecting the profession. Each panel will
be drawn from a cross section of leading practitioners and academics
from across Europe, allowing members to contrast the approaches of
different European countries. The panel discussions members will be
able to choose from will be: ‘The Liability of the Insolvency
Practitioner’, ‘The Internet and the Insolvency Profession’, ‘The
Position of Preferential Creditors in Corporate Insolvencies’, and
‘Recent Developments Relating to the EU Regulation on Insolvency
Proceedings’. The emphasis will be on gaining views and
contributions from all countries represented at the congress. Through
these smaller discussion groups it is hoped that members will gain a
wealth of shared experience on topics that affect us all.
At the conclusion of the conference delegates will be updated on
recent developments across the Atlantic.
