ICR Education and Training
Two ICR employees completed the twoday R2000 training course. This
ensures that ICR maintains its R2000 certification. It also trains the
participants in energy efficient construction techniques. Brian Pollock
has been enrolled in the Manitoba Apprenticeship Program for several
years and has successfully completed level three of the carpentry
program. He has attained among the highest marks in his class and
may challenge his journeyperson trades ticket in the near future. ICR
along with OPK has been meeting with the Provincial Apprenticeship
program staff. The result is a specifically tailored program to get
participants ready for enrollment in the apprenticeship program.
Inner City Renovation Staff News
Deyan Momtchilov joined ICR at the beginning of January as project
manager. Deyan is a recent U of M graduate in environmental design.
Deyan and his family live in the North End in an Inner City Renovation
renovated home purchased from North End Housing Project. Deyan is
an active member in community, volunteering with various community
organizations. Since joining ICR Deyan has already completed the
R2000 course and is enrolled in a project management course at Red
River College. Welcome Deyan.
Harold Asmundson
Several people have left ICR in the past quarter. Harold Asmundson left
at the end of January for health related reasons. Harold was a
journeyperson carpenter and first joined us in 2003. He started with ICR
as crew supervisor and progressed to become a project manager. We
will miss Harold’s expertise and sense of humour. Well wishes to Harold.
Dale Missyabit and Wade Rosentretor also left ICR in recent months.
Dale left to take another position in the industry while Wade decided to
relieve his partner and stay home to provide child care to his young
children. Andrew Hall who has been with ICR since startup is a proud
new father and has gone on parental leave. Congratulations Andrew..

Inner City Renovation Projects
After several months of waiting for building permits and project financing,
a number of new projects have recently started up. ICR has been
retained by Bridgman Collaborative Architecture as project manager
and general contractor for the renovations to the Dominion Bank
Building at Higgins and Main. This historic heritage building will be the
new home for the architectural firm. Other commercial projects about to
start include Project Neecheewan Inc. at their location on the corner of
Sherbrook and Sargent.
On the residential side, ICR has started two new renovation projects for
the Housing Opportunity Project (HOP) in Spence neighbourhood. Work
with NEHP houses in the North End are also continuing albeit on a
lesser scale. ICR has also completed a number of smaller private
renovations over the past few months.
Financial Performance
With a shortage of work, revenues were down in the first quarter of
415 Furby 2007. Lower revenues resulted in lower contributions to overhead.
Consequently, ICR recorded a loss for the first quarter. With projects
now under way and anticipated new projects starting soon, ICR is
projecting a small surplus for the remainder of the year to offset recent
losses.
Inner City Janitorial
The janitorial sector is based on paying minimum wage or lower in
cases where work is based on piecework. ICJ was trying to compete in
this sector by paying employees better wages and benefits. ICJ has
been servicing three clients over the past year and was not able to
solicit more clients to reach the necessary economy of scale to be
sustainable. Consequently the ICD Board has decided for ICJ to cease
operating. Termination notices have been provided to ICJ clients for
closure date by May 30, 2007..

One sunny day I decided to get a job To the office I do beg!
First day of work, they set me up with Please put me back on a crew with Craig

I’ve been on drywall now since, I don’t know when?
I felt like I was worked like a slave, All day I have to put up with that big guy named Glenn.

Then I met a joker named Wade. As far as I can remember we don’t employ a Jarrod.
All day I’ve thought of the rules I’ve I’m happy we haven’t had to sing any Christmas Carols,

Then I compared myself to that leader
named Brent. This Christmas I asked Santa for an Atari,
But he immediately replied it was as ancient as Harvey.
I’ve gotta tell you I’m an awesome
carpenter, I aint lyin, I hope tonight you are filled with joy and stuffed like a pita,
But there is a better one in the crew, Can we all applause for such a great job being done by Anita.
