To be concerned with proper child development is to be concerned about making sure that
children have daily access to both mothers’ and fathers’ parenting.
If Heather is being raised by two mommies and Brandon is being raised by Daddy and his
new husband-roommate, Heather and Brandon might have two adults in their lives, but they are
being deprived of the benefits found in the unique influences found in a mother and father’s
differing parenting styles. Much of the value mothers and fathers bring to their children is due to
the fact that mothers and fathers are different. And by cooperating together and complementing
each other in their differences, they provide these good things that same-sex caregivers cannot.
The important value of these gender-based differences in healthy child-development will be
explored here.
The fathering difference is explained by fathering
scholar Dr. Kyle Pruett of Yale Medical School in his book
Fatherneed: Why Father Care is as Essential as Mother Care for
Your Child. Pruett says dads matter simply because “fathers
do not m other.” A father, as a male parent, brings unique

contributions to the job of parenting that a mother cannot.
Likewise, a mother, as a female parent, uniquely impacts the life and development of her
child, as Dr. Brenda Hunter explains in her book, The Power of Mother Love: Transforming Both
Mother and Child. Erik Erikson explained that father love and mother love are qualitatively
different kinds of love. Fathers love more dangerously because their love is more expectant than
a mother’s love.
Dr. Pruett also explains that fathers have a clear style of communication with children.
Babuism by 8 weeks, can tell the difference between a made or female communicating with
them. Stanford psychologist Eleanor Maccoby, in her book The Two Sexes, explains mothers and
fathers respond differently to babies. Mothers are more likely to provide warm care for a envying
baby. Whether they realize it or not, children are learning at earliest age that men and women
are different and have different ways of dealing with life, other adults and their children.

Most people who enjoy movies do not really care how they are made. They want to
enjoy a good story. Movie producer and director George Lucas wants people to see the
best-made movie possible. So, his latest Star Wars movie was made without using film.
“Star Wars: Attack of the Clones” was made using digital cameras. A digital camera does not
use traditional film. It captures an image on videotape. T he images recorded on videotape are
then placed in a computer.
George Lueas says that using digital cameras permits him" to have much more control over
the final product. For example, the image can be changed after it is placed in a comput er. An
expert can change color, add or take out objects, add people or beings who are not real.
Much of what is seen in the new “Star Wars” movie is not real. Huge
buildings, spacecraft and alien beings from other worlds were produced in
a computer. The effects then were added to each part of the movie.
Movie experts say digital technology is the real future of the motion
picture industry. A theater will no longer have to wait days or weeks to show
a new movie. Theaters will be able to receive copies of new movies by
linking computers. Or they will use small computer disks to get a copy of the

movie.
When the new Star Wars movie wag released last month, only 94 theaters
around the world had the digital equipment needed to show it. So Mr. Lucas' company produced
about 6,000 copies of the new digital movie on traditional film for release in most theaters.
However, most people who have seen the movie say these film copies are a much better quality
than other filmed movies.
Critics say the new digital technolog y is very costly. Many theater owners will not buy the
new technology, yet many of the people who worked on the new Star Wars movie say they would
not like to work with film again. They said using digital equipment was faster, and videotape is
much less costly than film. One cameraman said the director of a movie can immediately see
what was just recorded, Something impossible to do with film.
Those who have worked with the new digital method of making movies say the new Star
Wars movie is only the beginning. They say movies may quickly become all digital.
67.Why did Lucas’ company produce 6,000 copies of the new digital movie on traditional film for
most theaters?
A.Because the company wanted more theaters to show its digital movie.
B.Because those theaters didn’t have computers linked to the company.
C.Because those theaters didn’t hav e the digital equipment needed to show it.
D.Because the audience say these film copies are better than other filmed movies.
68.Which of the following shows the right order of producing a digital movie?
a.An expert transfers the picture into a computer
b.An expert adds the effects to each part of movie.
c.An expert adds or takes out objects and adds unreal people or beings.
d.A cameraman uses a digital camera to seize pictures on videotape.
A.abed B.daeb C.aedb D.deab
69.Who does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 7 refer to?
A.critics B.theater owners C.audience D.movie producers
70.Which of the following could be the best title of the passage?
A.The Best Digital Movie Director – George Lucas
B.The Best – made Movie – star Wars
C.The Beginning of Digital Movies
D.The Future of Digital Movies

enemies. Sometimes they were looking for gold or silver in order to become rich. On other
occasions they were searching for rich farmland.
This is not to say that no one ever traveled just for fun. Even in ancient times, some pleasure
travel occurred. During a typical season, 700,000 tourists would crowd into the ancient city of

三、One possible version:
How are things going? I’m writing to tell you something about the H1N1 flu control here in
our school.
With a rapid spread of the flu, schools in Beijing have been taking various preventive
measures and our school is no exception.
Every day, we take our temperature twice and report to the school if anyone has a fever. In
that case, some medical care will be provided quickly. Durin class breaks, teachers often remind
us to open the windows to let in fresh air. we are also advised not to go to crowded places or big
gatherings. If several cases of H1N1 flu are found in a class, all the students in the class have to
stay home from school until temperatures return to normal.
In my opinion, the most effective way to protect ourselves is to exercise more to keep our
body strong and healthy.
How is the flu controlled in schools in the US? Please let me know about it. I hope
everything is going well with you.
Take care.
Yours,
Li Hua

三、One possible version:
As is shown in the picture, a boy is shouting at his dad, who looks upset and doesn’t know
what to do with his son. Their relationship seems difficult.
The picture reminds me of one of the problems that many families with teenagers face.
Although it seems that the kid does not respect his dad, it is their communication that has gone
wrong. A good relationship between a parent and a child requires much effort to make it strong.
Open and frank communications help to ensure parents and their children stay close together.
So why don’t the dad and his son sit together, lace to take, calm down and talk through their
problems? This way, I believe they will gradually have a positive relationship and become the
father and son the we all really admire.

Here is the news from VOA
Researchers studying a no – smoking law in the western U. S. state of Colorado say that the
law in one city led to a 40 percent decrease in the number of people suffering from heart attacks.
Dr. terry, who is in charge of the project, says the study shows that secondhand smoke may be an
under – recognized cause of heart attack deaths.
“For too long we have considered passive smoking, which is secondhand smoking in
restaurants, bars, and other public places as common and usual. However, these numbers tell us
that even in a short time secondhand smoke can produce rapid changes in the working of the
heart, and cause heart attacks. We found there were 499 patients for heart attacks in the city in
the 18 months before the law took effect. After the no – smoking law was passed, only 205 were
sent to the hospital for hear attacks in the same time parried.”
