The following essential oils may be helpful during times of cold and flu. Tea Tree—Anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal. Relieves congestion, strengthens immune system. Hyssop—Anti-bacterial. Relieves congestion, cough, sore throats Lemon—Anti-viral. Helps fight infections, stimulates immune system Eucalyptus—Anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal. Breaks up and expels mucous, relieves congestion, cools fever Peppermint—Fights infections, relieves congestion, clears sinuses Sandalwood—Expels mucous, soothes sore throats, fights infection, relieves congestion Thyme— Anti-viral, antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-microbial. eliminate mucous. Oregano—Anti-infectious agent, active against bacteria, virus, fungus, immune stimulant. Clove— Anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti-microbial, bactericidal. There are many different ways you can incorporate essential oils into your life: Massage oil—general rule of thumb is 15 drops per one ounce of carrier oil such as olive, almond, or apricot kernel oil. Steam—5-10 drops in a bowl of hot water. Lean over the bowl while draping a towel over your head to hold in the team. Gently inhale the vapor as they rise. Do not use Oregano or Clove in steaming. Mist—Add a few drops to a one ounce bottle of water. You can mist your environment, your telephone, door knobs, etc. regularly to combat bacteria or viruses. Inhalation—Put a few drops onto a handkerchief or tissue and inhale three or four times. Bath—add five drops to your bath, using milk as a dispersing agent, and soak for 10-20 minutes.
Historic Anti-Plague Remedy - Four Thieves
During the Bubonic Plague in medieval France, it is said that four thieves who robbed the bodies of the dead, were able to avoid catching the disease themselves by making liberal use of an herbal vinegar. There are many recipes of this formula which proclaim to be the original. We have included a few recipes here allowing you to decide which may be the best for you. Four Thieves Vinegar 1 Tbl. each of dried Lavender, Rosemary, Sage and Peppermint 2-3 Bay leaves 2 tsp. dried Wormwood 1 tsp. Garlic granules 1 tsp. ground Cloves 1 tsp. ground Cinnamon 2 1/2 cups cider vinegar Put ingredients in a jar, and fill with the vinegar. Cover tightly and leave it in a warm place, such as a sunny windowsill, for 10 days. Strain off the vinegar through a sieve lined with a coffee filter into a clean bowl or pitcher. Pour it into a sterilized bottle and seal. The method of using the vinegar was to apparently douse it liberally over one’s body and to wear pieces of cloth soaked in it over the mouth and nose. It probably is ingestible, and quite possibly has something of a hallucinogenic effect due to the wormwood. Effective variations of this recipe: Four Thieves Vinegar (A recipe stated to be the original) 3 pints white vine vinegar Handful wormwood Handful meadowsweet Handful juniper berries Handful wild marjoram Handful sage 50 cloves 2 oz. elecampane root 2 oz. angelica 2 oz. rosemary 2 oz. horehound 3 g. camphor Marseilles Vinegar or Four Thieves Vinegar by Dr. Jean Valnet 40 g. greater wormwood, Artemesia absinthum
40g. Lesser wormwood, Artemesia pontica 40 grams rosemary 40 grams Sage 40 grams Mint 40 grams Rue 40 grams Lavender 5 grams calamus 5 grams cinnamon 5 grams clove 5 grams nutmeg 5 grams garlic 10 g. camphor (do not use synthetic camphor) 40 g. crystallized acetic acid 2500 grams white vinegar Instructions: Steep the plants in the vinegar for 10 days. Force through a sieve. Add the camphor dissolved in the acetic acid, filter. Dr. Jean Valnet says this remedy is useful in the prevention of infectious diseases. He says to rub it on the face and hands and burn it in the room. It can also be kept in small bottles that are carried on the person so that the vapors can be inhaled.
