					       How To Write Your Essay for Your Learner Led Conference

At your learner-led conference you will be talking about your essay and presenting
copies of your essay to your parents/guardians, a facilitator, at least two of your
peers, and your peers’ parents/guardians.

Learner-led conferences are scheduled for the week of October 22- 26 at 8:00 a.m.
Please see Juanita if you need to sign up for a conference.


Preparation for writing this essay:

Get out the rubrics you filled in for Time and Task Management (pg. 1), and Individual
Teamwork (pgs. 13 & 14). Make sure you have filled them all out.

How to write your essay:

Paragraph one: Briefly introduce yourself by doing the following:

   •   Write out your name, grade level and how long you have been in the Center.
   •   Tell us something interesting about you (hobby, talent, etc.)
   •   Let us know in general how your year is going so far.
   •   Then write a sentence that tells us that you will be sharing your ideas about where
       you are in the areas of Time and Task Management and Individual Teamwork.

Paragraph two: Look where you placed yourself on the rubric for
Time and Task Management (pg. 1):

   1. Explain why you placed yourself where you did
   2. Explain what evidence you are bringing to your conference to show why you
      placed yourself where you did
   3. Explain what your new goals are in this area and what you will have to do to
      achieve your goals.

Paragraph three: Look where you placed yourself on the rubric for
Individual Teamwork-- Task Planning and Management (p. 13):

Follow steps 1, 2, and 3 as outlined above

Paragraph four: Look where you placed yourself on the rubric
Individual Teamwork—Understands Team Roles (p. 13):

Paragraph five: Look where you placed yourself on the rubric

Paragraph nine: Conclusion

   1. Try to summarize what the rubrics as a whole say about where you are in your
      learning experience.
   2. Next, reflect on what you learned about your goals and yourself by writing this
      essay.
   3. Finally, discuss what kind of support you might need from your
      parents/guardians, facilitators and other learners in order to achieve your goals.


Please be aware that your essay will be copied and distributed in your learner-led
conference, so you will want to make sure that it is grammatically correct and has
correct punctuation, spelling, etc. (Remember your parents/guardians will be seeing
it). We will find writing coaches for those of you who want them. Please use your
writing coaches and help each other peer edit so that you can be proud of your essay
at your conference.

Your Humanities facilitator will go over your due date with you. Write your due date
and points below.
