Paliotan Yellow L 1145
Chemical nature Paliotan® Yellow L 1145 is a co-finish product of a fine-granules bismuth vanadate – BiVO4, Pigment Yellow 184 – and organic pigments. In animal studies, bismuth vanadate pigments did not show any acute toxicity. Tests to determine the irritation of skin and mucous membranes did not show any acute irritant effects. Animal studies gave some indication of inhalational toxicity. Changes of lung weight and lung tissue were observed in rats at high dust concentrations. Those effects were only observed at concentration levels that usually do not occur under the usual conditions of industrial hygiene and, in particular, when low-dusting products are used. Bismuth vanadate pigments did not show sensitizing effects in animal studies. The organic pigments did not display any toxicity effects. Ecology Bismuth vanadate pigments are not known to have caused damage to the environment and they are not expected to. Vanadium compounds except vanadium pentoxide show toxic effects on humans, animals and plants only at relatively high concentrations. Vanadium is an essential trace element for humans and animals. In studies on the eco toxicity, bismuth vanadate pigments did not show toxic effects on fish and bacteria. Because of the organic pigments contained in the product, waste should be disposed of in an incineration plant. Water hazard classification WGK 1, low hazard to waters (VwVwS of May 17, 1999, annex 4) Germany Labeling according to the German Ordinance on dangerous substances or corresponding EU directives: no labeling required due to a particulate matter fraction of < 0.1 % When ground to powder, this labeling is required: Xn R 48 harmful harmful, danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure
