The eLearning Guidelines
Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) has
announced their next strategies on eLearning to
focus on the further integration of IT into learning and
teaching process and commit research in
 implementing Information Literacy for students.

In order to show teachers a clear direction of the
eLearning development at the University, 2 levels of
 guidelines were established.
Level 1
 Aim:
To ensure that students have access to clear
and timely course information by enhancing
   information distribution and communication
   channels

 Target:
   All courses (required)
Level 2
 Aim:
To encourage further integration of IT in
   education by enhancing effective course
   management and collaborative learning

 Targets:
   All courses (recommended)
How eLearning can lower your work
burden and enhance learning?
A place to deliver course materials so that teachers don’t need
to print handout and can update the materials anytime on Web.
Also, it allows teacher to update the content anytime at their
 convenience.

A place to collect homework to save teachers’ time in managing
homework. No longer need to receive homework by mail or
 email.

A centralized Q&A forum which can save teachers’ time in
 answering the same question repetitively.

Provide auto-marking on exercises and quizzes which saves
teachers’ time and give students faster responses.

An overview of students’ progress and collect feedbacks to the
course so that teachers can react and take necessary actions
 right away.

CU Forum – basic eLearning tool
CU Forum is an eLearning platform developed by ITSC since year
 2000. (http://cuforum.cuhk.edu.hk/)
We keep developing it by integrating teachers’ suggestions.

                               Notes: Should I use it?

                               • If I look for a platform which provides very
basic function and easy operation for sharing
files, links, photos among a community.

                               • If I want to extend to discuss with students
outside classroom and want to receive email
notification when there are new discussions.

                               • If I want to distribute and collect homework
                               electronically.
Moodle – comprehensive eLearning tool

 fit teachers’ needs.

                                 Notes: Should I use it?

                                 • If I want to list out teaching materials and class
activities in topic or weekly format.

                                 • If I want to extend to discuss with students
outside classroom and want to receive email
notification when there are new discussions.

                                 • If I want to have online exercises (MC, SQ, LQ)
                                 with auto-marking.

                                 • If I want to use some latest technology such as

                                  Notes: Should I use it?

                                  • If I want to design a course website with
                                      unique graphical layout .

                                  • If I want to have online exercises (MC, SQ,
                                      LQ) with auto-marking.

                                  • If I want to release different materials to
                                      different groups of student.
Real-time online teaching

                  Notes: Should I use it?

                  • If I think a two-ways real-time video and
audio exchange is critical to the course.

                  • I can broadcast my computer screen to
