GONZAGA U. TO HOST FREE PUBLIC EXHIBITION, ‘BULLDOG
BATTALION: GONZAGA’S MILITARY SCIENCE MARCHES ON’
SPOKANE, Wash. – The exhibition “Bulldog Battalion: Gonzaga’s Military Science Marches on,” which showcases Gonzaga
University’s long military history that dates back to 1900, is on display through Jan. 31, 2011 in the Cowles Rare Book Library on the
third floor of the Foley Center Library at Gonzaga University. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
The exhibition was developed in collaboration with the Gonzaga University Archives and the Gonzaga military science department to
showcase this rich and colorful history. The exhibition is open weekdays from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and will be closed Nov. 25-26, and
Dec. 23 to Jan. 1, 2011.
Spanning the years 1900 to 2010 are photographs, medals, uniforms, patches, scrapbooks, and trophies. Highlights of the 160-plus items
include: a Cadet Corps hat from 1907; Distinguished Flying Cross Medal from World War II; V-12 Navy Course Manuals; an Army tent
showing old and current camping equipment; and Army clothing from the past 60 years.
This exhibition and accompanying catalog were prepared in honor of the Gonzaga All Military Service Reunion held on campus Oct.
22-24 to recognize Gonzaga alumni who have served in various U.S. Armed Forces over the years.
