Microsoft Communications Sector is responsible for advancing Microsoft’s strategy for
the communications industry and for the marketing and sales of all Microsoft offerings,
including industry solutions, services and core Microsoft products, to communications
service providers, hosting providers, and media and entertainment companies.

Meeting the Needs of Communications Companies
Microsoft Corp. provides a broad portfolio of technologies, products and solutions designed to help
communications companies increase efficiency, rapidly create and deliver innovative new services, and
enhance the customer experience. The Communications Sector works across the Microsoft business
divisions to develop industry-specific solutions for service providers, hosting providers, and the media and
entertainment industries.

Wireline and mobile operators / Cable companies / Network equipment providers
As service providers continue to invest in broadband IP networks in both wireline and wireless spaces,
they are looking to create and deliver compelling value-added services and generate new revenue
streams by looking beyond voice to areas such as unified communications, computing, portals and
search, mobility, television, music, and gaming. Microsoft is committed to partnering with service
providers to leverage all parties’ respective assets and collective strengths to deliver rich user
experiences across a range of devices. Microsoft offers products and services such as Microsoft
Mediaroom, Windows Mobile and Microsoft Online Services, as well as its core Windows platform
and enterprise desktop and application software.

Web hosters / Independent software vendors / Value-added resellers / Systems integrators
Microsoft is helping to ensure the success of its hosting partners as the industry evolves to meet the
demands of cloud computing. The Microsoft platform offers the power of choice whether services are
deployed on-premise or in a partner-hosted model, or hosted by Microsoft, and enables partners to
deliver compelling solutions and services to their end customers. Hosting providers can utilize platforms
and applications such as Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Hyper-V, Microsoft Solution for Hosted
Messaging and Collaboration, and Windows Azure. Microsoft also offers several programs designed
to provide business and technical guidance and discounted licensing, such as the Hosting Solutions
Competency in the Microsoft Partner Program, the Service Provider Licensing Agreement, Microsoft
BizSpark program, and the Software +Services Incubation Center.

Broadcasting companies / Film studios / Publishing firms / Advertising firms
In the media and entertainment industry, the growth of user-generated content and the increase in
channels for content consumption have revolutionized the way digital media content is reaching its
audiences, and how users are engaging with content. In this rapidly changing industry, Microsoft delivers
a breadth of solutions across the content value chain from content creation to management and
distribution, by providing solutions across digital content management, search and monetization, and
digital content experiences, all supported by media business management solutions to provide business
insights and monitoring of critical business functions. Key products offered in this space include
Microsoft Expression, Microsoft Office SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft Mediaroom and
