Derby Mountain Rescue Team and Derby Cathedral Chapter are seeking your help. Both
charities rely heavily on public donations to provide the means to deliver services to those
in need. Here is a brief of what they provide for us in our community and where your
sponsorship money will be put to.

Derby Mountain Rescue Team
www.DerbyMRT.org.uk
Registered charity number 1089237

Established Mountain Rescue status in 1964 DERBY
We thank you for your help in raising sponsorship. The Teams yearly running cost are
£18,000, which does not including any capital i.e. vehicles / current garage. We are putting
some of the money raised from this event towards our New Headquarters which is
estimated to cost £250,000, we are still in the planning zone but we are hoping to start
this project in this next year.
We do not receive any official funding, we are totally reliant on the generous public
donations and events like this, all our members give there time freely to train, fund raise &
 rescue.
Our team members are every day people, why not join us as an operation member or as a
supporter see our website for more details.
Our average call outs (rescues) are between 30 / 34 per year, in 2010 we had 45 calls for
 our services.
Call Out / Rescues are anything from helping the ambulance service in providing a
Mountain Rescue stretcher and personnel to transport a patient from boggy underfoot
ground, to rescuing people on steep ground or rescuing stranded or slipped climbers,
then there is looking for missing people in the Peak District and other places like Cannock
Chase or even the outskirts of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
You will be able to meet some of us a s we will be providing the abseiling expertise on the
weekend, why not find out more history or how many call outs we have been doing either
 from our website, Facebook

Good luck with you’re fund raising

                                                           Derby’s most prestigious and, in
                                                           abseiling terms, prestigious, tall
building – the medieval tower of
                                                           the Cathedral. Completed in
                                                           about 1532, the medieval masons
built without thought of such stunts, so there are additional interesting features in the
carvings to be negotiated – such as the occasional gargoyle and the 2 ½ metre wide clock
face on the south face of the tower where the abseil is to take place.
The tower, originally built as a church tower (All Saints became a Cathedral in 1927) is the
second highest church tower in the land after St Botolph’s, Boston. Abseilers will have the
pleasure of climbing up 189 steps inside the tower, then abseiling down about 189 feet
outside it (though it is 212’ to the top of the pinnacles).
Derby Cathedral is open every day of the year offering diverse activities appealing to a
broad community, which include worship, music, concerts and events. We have a team of
volunteer and activity groups where new members are always welcome including: Ark
(Sunday School), Bell Ringing, Cleaners, Cash Counting, Cathedral Choirs, Shop
Volunteers, Education, Embroidery Workshop, Flower Arrangers, Garden Team, Ministry
of Welcome (Cathedral Guides), Admin Team, Stewards & Tower Guides to name but a
few. For more details contact the Cathedral office on 01332 341201.
The funds raised from the Tower Abseil go towards a variety of projects, which support
 Cathedral activity.
We have a commercial operation in the Cathedral Centre opposite the Cathedral, which
consists of a Coffee Shop, Gift Shop, Treasury and a number of meeting rooms, which are
available to let for meetings on a daily basis. We are able to offer meeting facilities along
with catering such as morning coffee, buffet lunch and afternoon tea.
During the spring we receive many visitors who are interested in observing through our
web cam the hatching and rearing of the Peregrines who nest on the tower each year. The
web cam may be viewed from home, which gives an insight into the lives of the Falcon
 Peregrine.

Good luck with you’re fund raising
