Extra Credit Speech Project Guidelines and Rubric 1. The students must read Shakespeare’s masterpiece “Othello” and understanding its setting, plot, characters, and literary elements. 2. The students will prepare a 5 – 7 minute speech in which they will: a. Perform a short summary of the plot b. Discuss the importance of Shakespeare’s work in the history of the English language (this will require some research) c. Discuss the historical background of “Othello” d. Express conclusions that support the student’s opinion about “Othello” 3. Students may have notes, HOWEVER there can be NO reading whatsoever 4. Students must be prepared to answer questions about “Othello” (answering the questions will NOT count as part of the 5 – 7 minutes) Rubric Pronunciation: 10 points Fluency: 10 points Body Language: 10 points Emotion: 10 points Eye Contact: 10 points Content: 10 points Opinions/Conclusions: 10 points Response #1: 10 points Response #2: 10 points Total Score: 100 points The Colegio Menor in house contest will take place on THURSDAY, APRIL 15th from 2:50 – 3:50 in room 335. If you score 85 – 100 you will receive 10 extra credit points towards summative assessments. If you score 75 – 85 you will receive 8 extra credit points towards summative assessments. If you score 65 – 75 you will receive 5 extra credit points towards summative assessments. If you score less than 65 you will NOT receive ANY points. If you are chosen as the representative for Colegio Menor, you will receive 15 extra credit points towards a summative assessment The contest at William Shakespeare will be on April 29th at 10:30am.
