Iso 9000 and 9001 ISO is the abbreviation of International Standards Organization. ISO 9000 is a family of the standards for quality management systems and is administered by accreditation and certification bodies. ISO 9000 series standards started in 1987 and then updated in 1994, 2000 and the latest one as ISO 9001:2008. Initial ISO standards [1987 and 1994] were Elements [sections] based and were used and audited accordingly. ISO 9001:2000 was the first standard that introduced process based audit approach. ISO 9001:2008 Standard is an upgrade or update and is revised from ISO 9001:2000 Standard. This new standard does not introduce any major changes that will affect your quality management system. Most of the changes are clarification and verbiages based. For an example: 'measuring device' is now called 'measuring equipment', etc. Some of the major changes introduces are: --Management Representative must be from the organization's management.[5.5.2] --The boundaries of competence extend to individuals who impact product conformity to defined requirements. --Customer Property can include personal data [7.5.4] --Traceability requirements are now required throughout the product realization and records are to be maintained [7.5.3] --There are numerous changes and most of them are clarifying and redefining the existing requirements. ISO 9001:2008 standard can be used by both manufacturing and service industries. It can be applied to all types and sizes [small, medium or large] of the organization, regardless of what system you use for quality.
