Interpret Insight
The Nintendo 3DS offers what no other device in the market does: a 3D experience—beyond just gaming—
without the need for glasses. Those who plan on purchasing a 3DS in the next three months are young
consumers and avid gamers. Though targeting core gamers has garnered positive reaction so far that will
most likely bring initial success, Nintendo must prepare itself for entry into a saturated market—one that
already includes three Nintendo devices—and distinguish itself even further to gain a stronghold amongst
competitors. With the list of devices vying for pocket share only getting longer, the long-term future of the
3DS is less certain.
In 2010 Nintendo announced the release of its new handheld, the Nintendo 3DS, which features 3D gaming.
What makes the 3DS original, compelling, and stand apart from all other handheld devices, as well as all
other 3D technologies, is the lack of necessity for 3D glasses. Instead, one of the two screens on the 3DS
makes it seem as if one is looking through a window. Besides the glasses-free feature, the 3DS, like the DSi,
can connect to the Internet with an upgraded Internet browser that will be available through a system
