Shared Practice Template Best Practice Title: Measurement Man Submitted by: Susan Sweetser Grade: LDC Academic Area: Math Topic: Measurement Objective(s): To learn the meaning of customary liquid measurement terms such as gallon, quart, pint, cup. Curriculum Framework Standard(s): 3.M.1 and 3.M.2 and 3.M.5 Lesson/Activity/Strategy Description: This is a hands-on activity where students create a visual replica of a man representing liquid measurement. It shows visually how there are four quarts in a gallon, two pints in a quart and two cups in a pint. Students can then refer to this as a tool in computing liquid measurement problems. It can remain in the classroom as a reference tool. Materials: Colored paper (5 different colors), brads, scissors, pencil, markers Assessment(s): The students will be assessed by demonstrating they are able to use the measurement man to convert units of liquid measurement. For example, how many quarts are in two gallons?
