stage a press conference to discuss their findings of a new report that was developed for
local policymakers. CCROPP partners representing the six counties of the San Joaquin
Valley (Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Tulare) will share a brief overview of their
community needs and give examples of environments that often limit choices for
nutrition or physical activity.

When: [Include date, day and time of time with a.m. or p.m.]

Example: Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006- 12:30 p.m. press conference

                Perry Rickard, Director
                Kings County Public Health Department

Why: [This should be your key message and explain why you are making news]

Example: The report, A Policy Analysis of Obesity in the San Joaquin Valley, will be
used as a tool to inform the decision-making process for policymakers. The San
Joaquin Valley experiences some of the highest rates of obesity, diabetes and other
chronic conditions in the state. Many sources have recently documented the growing
epidemic of overweight and obesity among children, adolescents and adults in the San
Joaquin Valley. Citizens and policymakers are essential to improving social and
physical environments for healthy nutrition and physical activity.

Background: [Provide background information about organization or event]
Example: The Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP) is a
three-year initiative designed to improve social and physical environments for healthy
nutrition and physical activity through advocacy, policy and system change. Prevention
efforts are focused on the growing epidemic of overweight and obesity among children
and adults in the six San Joaquin Valley counties: Fresno, Kings, Kern, Madera, Merced,
and Tulare. CCROPP was developed by the Central California Public Health
Partnership and is funded by a grant from The California Endowment. The overall
project is administered by the Central California Center for Health and Human Services
at California State University, Fresno.

Media Visuals: [Indicate what your strong visuals are; this is most useful for TV]

Example: Posters documenting communities that lack walkable paths, bike lanes, and
healthy food venues (i.e. Farmer’s Markets) will be on display.
