                              International Students Admission Scheme (2011 Entry)
                                            Guide on Application for Admission
                                             (Full-time Undergraduate Studies)

Important Notes
1.  The “International Students Admission Scheme ” is open only to persons who do not have the right of abode or right
    to land in Hong Kong. All successful applicants are required to produce to The Chinese University of Hong K ong a
    valid student visa in order to study at the university.
2.  Persons who have right of abode or right to land in Hong Kong should apply via the “Non-JUPAS (Local)
    Admissions Scheme” (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/adm/nonjupas ).
3.  If you have any doubts or queries on your status, please contact the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong
    SAR Government (website: www.immd.gov.hk ; email: enquiry@immd.gov.hk ).

I.     Entrance Requirements
            1.   Applicants shall be eligible to apply if they:
                 (i)   have obtained in one sitting of the GCE Advanced Level Examination pass grades in no less than 3 Advanced
                       Level subjects (Applicants with pass grades in 2 Ad vanced Level and 2 Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects may
                       also apply) (Note A) ; OR
                 (ii) have acquired an International Baccalaureate Diploma; OR
                 (iii) possess a qualification obtained outside Hong Kong which qualifies them for university admission in the
                       country/region where such qualification is obtained (e.g. high school diploma plus SAT in USA, UEC / STPM in
                       Malaysia, ATAR in Australia, OSSD in Canada, etc); OR
                 (iv) have successfully completed:
                        • at least one year of full-time undergraduate study at a recognised university; OR
                        • a course of study leading to the qualification of an associate degree / higher diploma; OR
                 (v)   have other exceptional achievements which merit admission.
            2.   Language requirement
                 Applicants should have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in English.

II.    Additional Considerations
           Applicants are:
            1. expected to possess keen interests, suitable talents or academic background to make a unique contribution to the cultural
                 diversity on campus;
            2. recommended to take TOEFL, IELTS or other acceptable language test, if English is not their native language;
            3. expected to be able to financially support themselves during all periods of enrolment.

Note A:
           Students admitted on GCE A-level or its equivalent qualification (e.g. International Baccalaureate Diploma) will normally be
            required to complete 99 units of courses in order to graduate. Students admitted on standing below GCE A-level
            qualification (e.g. qualifications obtained outside Hong Kong for admission to 4 -year undergraduate programmes of an
            overseas university) will normally be required to complete 123 units of courses in order to graduate. (For details on our

           Notes for Mainland Applicants
            i.     Candidates from Mainland are eligible to apply through this Scheme if the y are currently pursuing or have
                   completed an overseas curriculum (e.g. GCE A-Level, IB Diploma) leading to an overseas qualification which
                   qualifies them for university admission in the country/region where such qualification is obtained.
            ii.    Mainland students, who are current Gao Kao candidates 「应届高考生」, must apply through the National Colleges
                   and Universities Enrolment System 「全国普通高校统一招生计划」 (For details, please refer to the Recruitment of
                   Mainland Students website at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/adm/mainland ).

III.   Selection Criteria
       Applicants will be considered on the basis of their academic and other qualifications and on individual merits. If they are
       invited to attend an interview, their performance at the interview will also be taken into account.

IV.    Credit Transfer
       Applicants who have successfully completed courses at undergraduate level and have been admitted to the University may
       apply for credit e xemption after they have registered as a student of the University. Such applications will be considered on a
       case-by-case basis.

V.      Early Consideration
        Applicants who wish to receive early consideration for admission may submit their applications on or before
        15 December 2010.
        Applications received on or before the stipulated date will receive early consideration and those with particularly outstandi ng
        academic results or other achievements will be short-listed for early decisions. Those who are selected and offered a place
        under Early Consideration will be notified from January to February 2011.
        Applicants who are not offered a place under Early Consideration will compete on equal footing with all other applicants agai n
        in the regular selection exercise, of which the application deadline is 9 February 2011.

        * Successful applicants should pay the composition fees and complete registration procedures by a specified date; otherwise
          the admission offer will become null and void.

VIII.   Submission of Application Form
          1. Before submitting your application, please make sure that you have fully completed and signed your application and
             attach the following supporting documents:
             (i)   a photocopy of your Hong Kong Identity Card / Passport / other Identity Card / Student Visa
             (ii)  copies of your credentials, if applicable:
                       •     high school reports / transcripts and graduation certificate / diploma
                            •    diploma / sub-degree transcripts and graduation certificate
                            •    result slip(s) of public examination(s) (HKCEE / HKALE / IB / SAT / AP / GCE / GCSE / IGCSE / Gao
                                 Kao / others). The University Code for College Board (for submission of SAT, AP results) is 5690 , for
                                 TOEFL is 0812.
                            •    proficiency in English / Chinese language (TOEFL / IELTS / others)
                            •    professional / academic achievements
                            (Remarks: Please do not send your original documents by post. The University will not be responsible
                            for any documents lost in the post. Transcripts and diplomas, which are not in English or Chinese,
                            must be accompanied by a certified translation in English.)
               (iii)     admission offer letter from another recognised university to which you have been offered admission for 2011
                         Entry
               (iv)      Recommendation of an Academic Referee (in a sealed envelope), if not sent directly to the Office by the referee
               (v)       payment of application fee
          2.   All necessary documentary evidence must be submitted to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid once available.
               Early submission is highly appreciated and can facilitate the process of applications. Applications may not be
               processed and application results will be affected if applicants fail to submit necessary documentary evidence. All
               submitted documents will not be returned to applicants.
          3.   Original of awards / certificates in support of the qualifications listed in the application will be required for
               verification upon request by the University before commencement of studies. Applicants who fail to produce
               these for verification WILL result in disqualification of their applications for admission and subsequent
               enrolments in the University.
          4.   Applicants mus t sign their application forms. Those submitting their applications via email will be requested to provide a
               signature at a later stage.
          5.   Applicants must not submit more than one application form, or their applications will be disqualified.
          6.   Applications should be submitted to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid before the stipulated deadline in one of
               the following ways:
               (i)       by post / in person:

IX.    Application Fee
         1.   The online application fee is HK$300 (approximate to US$37) and the paper application fee is HK$400
              (approximate to US$52) for 2011 entry. The application fee, once paid, is not refundable irrespective of whether
              the application is successful or otherwise.
         2.   Applicants may pay the application fee by:
              (i) sending us the original of completed and signed authorisation form of credit card payment by post; OR
              (ii) enclosing a bankdraft or bank cheque (in Hong Kong dollars, drawn on a bank in Hong Kong) made payable to
                   „The Chinese University of Hong Kong‟ (please write your nam e and contact number on the back of the bankdraft /
                   bank cheque ).


X.     Points to Note after Submission of Application
         1.   An acknowledgement with an application number will be sent to you by email within 3 weeks after the receipt of your
              application form. If you do not receive the application acknowledgement 5 weeks after submission of application, you
              are advised to check with the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid immediately.
         2.   Changes in personal particulars such as names, telephone numbers, postal and email addresses should be reported to
              the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid immediately in writing.
         3.   Applicants who wish to inquire about the status of their applications after submission should visit the website of the
              Office of Admissions and Financial Aid at https://www.adm.cuhk.edu.hk/adm_enq_status/ from January 2011 or four
              weeks after the submission of application, whichever is later.
         4.   Please quote your Application Number in your enquiry or correspondence.

XI.    Privacy Policy Statement

       The information we collect from your application form will be used for the following purposes:

         1.   for all types of processing of applications for admission to undergraduate programmes offered by the Univer sity and
              other relevant or related purposes, including for verifying information about the applicant's candidature for public
              examinations and studies from the relevant institutions in Hong Kong and elsewhere; and for identifying multiple
              applications and records of previous studies as a student in the University and other institutions; and

         2.   as part of applicants' student records upon registration to a programme, which will be used for all purposes relating to
              their studies in accordance with the procedures of the University.

       Personal data will be kept confidential and handled by the University‟s staff members. The University may pass some of the
       data to appointed persons to undertake some of its academic and administrative functions.

       Our application procedures allow you access to and correction of your personal particulars contained in the application form,
       except the following information:
       (a) programme / stream preference
       (b) reasons for applying

                                      Notes for Completing the Application Form
Applicants should provide complete and accurate information listed in the application form . Applicants who fail to do so will result in
disqualification of their applications for admission and subsequent enrolments in the University.

Note 1       Mainland students who are current Gao Kao candidates 「应届高考生」must apply through the National Colleges and
             Universities Enrolment System 「全国普通高校统一招生计划」 (For details, please refer to the Recruitment of Mainland
             Students website at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/adm/mainland ).

Note 2       The “International Students Admission Scheme” is open only to persons who do not have the right of abode or right to

                               Holders of a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
                               Those with the Right of Abode / Right to Land in Hong Kong
                                Holders of a Hong Kong Identity Card can find out from their HKID cards if they have the Right of
                                Abode in Hong Kong. If there is a symb ol ‘A’ under the date of b irth on their HKID cards, they have the
                                Right of Abode in Hong Kong. If there is a symbol ‘R’ under the date of birth on their HKID cards, they
                                have the Right to Land in Hong Kong.
                               Holders of a Dependant Visa for entry to Hong Kong

             If you have a Hong Kong Identity Card / student visa, please submit a copy to us.

Note 3       Applicants must complete this section carefully. No amendment of Programme / Stream Preferences will be allowed
             after submission of applications.
             Please refer to the “Major Undergraduate Programmes for 2011/12” (page 5) for programmes / streams offered by the
             University in the 2011-12 academic year.

Note 4       Applicants should enclose copies of all certificates and transcripts. Transcripts and diplomas, which are not in English or
             Chinese, must be accompanied by an official English language translation.
