									                                             History of DRG Stapleton AFC

Formed in 1962 the club was then named RWP AFC after the Company who all its members worked for,Robinsons Waxed
Papers. It originally played in the Church of England League, but were soon accepted into the Bristol & District League playing
on the company ground at St Johns Lane.

The team progressed through the various Divisions of the Bristol & District League to Division 1,and moved to the Company
Ground at Carsons Road Mangotsfield in 1966,and in 1976/67 they finished runners up to Frys and gained election to the Avon
Premier Combination.Always reasonably well placed in Division 2 of this league they were promoted to Division 1 when they
were Champions of Division 2.

Winning the Berkeley Hospital Cup in 1981/82 they went on to win the Gloucestershire Senior AmateurCup in 1985/86 beating
Thornbury Town in which was to be the last game to be played on the Bristol Rovers ground at Eastville. In 1986/87 they did the
treble when they were Champions of the Avon Premier Combination,2Avon Premier Cup Winners and Berkeley Hospital Cup
winners.Elected to the Gloucestershire County League in 1987 they finished in a mid table position and won the Berkeley
Hospital Cup for the second year in succession.

In 1989/90 the Reserves were Champions of the Bristol & District League and the Club won the Berkeley Hospital Cup for the 5 th
time.

In 1994 the reserves were promoted to the Premier Combination Division 1 after finishing runners up in the Bristol Senior
Division and they also won the GFA Junior Cup

1996 saw the first XI become Champions of the Gloucestershire County League and in season 1997/8 they won the
Gloucestershire Challenge Trophy.

When the ground at Carsons Road was developed for housing DRG AFC took over Stapleton AFC and moved to their present
ground at Frenchay Park Road. A great deal of work had to be done improving the pitch to bring it up to County League standard.
Unfortunately the Club has not had the same success since their enforced move, with the Reserve side being demoted to the Bristol
& District Division 3 where they are playing at present.
