Funding Opportunities and Upcoming Deadlines There are quite a few deadlines coming up for various funding schemes and some news on other schemes. Some of these schemes are aimed at Postdoctoral applicants so please draw your students’ attention to them. Deadlines British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies Grant of £1,000 Deadline: 01 December 2010 A fellowship open to established scholars of the long eighteenth-century who are either visiting Great Britain or who are currently resident in Great Britain and need to visit other UK institutions. European Commission Framework Programme 7 Deadline: 02 February 2011 “Cooperation” A collaborative project which may address: growth, employment and competitiveness in a knowledge society Apply through EPSS, pFACT needed. The application process takes time so please contact the accounts office well in advance. ERC Starting Investigator Grants. Grants up to €1,500,000 Deadline: 24 November 2010 A well funded scheme offering large grants for research on a topic of the investigator’s choosing. This is aimed at early career researchers between 2 and 12 years of receiving their PhD. Apply through EPSS online. pFACT required and Research Office approval needed. This scheme is very well funded but the application process takes time so contact the accounts office now. ERC Advanced Investigator Grants. Grants up to €2,500,000 Deadline: 06 April 2011 A well funded scheme offering large grants for research on a topic of the investigator’s choosing. This is aimed at researchers with a strong record of research. Apply through EPSS online. pFACT required and Research Office approval needed. This scheme is very well funded but the application process takes time so contact the accounts office well in advance. ESRC Follow-on Funding Scheme Grants up to £125,000 Deadline: 27 January 2011 Funding to enable further knowledge transfer from a research project that may have been funded either by the ESRC or another sponsor. Apply through Je-S. The scheme provides funding for additional knowledge transfer and impact generation activities. pFACT and Research Office approval needed. Institute of Historical Research: Scouloudi Historical Awards Deadline: 01 March 2011 Funding to contribute towards the cost of publishing a book, article or an issue of a learned journal in the field of history. Also to pay for research and other expenses incurred on completing work which the applicant intends to publish. Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships Two year fellowship schemes for those under 35 years of age. Ideally applicants should be moving to Cambridge from another institution. Deadline: January 2011 for the Newton Trust, 10 March 2011 for the Leverhulme. Matching funding from the Newton Trust must first be applied for through the Faculty. Further application details will be available by December 2010. Applications must be sent to the Faculty of History accounts office in January 2010. Successful applicants will be invited to apply to the Leverhulme Trust by their deadline in March 2010 Leverhulme Research Programme Grant OUTLINE Deadline: 12 January 2011 Large grants fro a research team to carry out innovative research on a theme. Apply. pFACT required and Research Office approval needed. The application should be prepared before Christmas. The 3 themes for 2011 are Intergenerational Justice, Resilience and Science and Politics. The scheme only funds 1 grant per theme so the chance of success is not as good as with the ERC. Leverhulme Visiting Professorships For overseas Professors Deadline: 12 May 2011 Visits can be between 3 and 10 months. Applications must come from the UK host institution. Newton International Fellowships (opens December 2010) Deadline: Early February 2011 Funding for overseas early career researchers to spend a year in a UK institution.
