Background
To assist principal investigators and supervisors in establishing new APT positions, a limited number of Position Description (PD) templates have been created PD templates created for research support positions (technical and administrative)

PD templates have been created for:
Research Assistant
Research Support, Band A
Research Technician
Research Support, Band B
Program Assistant
Institutional Support, Band A
Program Coordinator
Institutional Support, Band B

Components of PD Templates
Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions Judgment Exercised Originality Controls Over Position Supervision Exercised
Modification of PD Templates
Duties and responsibilities may be modified (i.e., add, delete, or edit) Essential functions may be changed Judgment exercised, originality, controls over position, and supervision exercised may be amended from a list of statements Fill-in-the blanks minimum qualifications; add desirable qualifications
Requesting a PD Template
Supervisor’s responsibilities:
Requests for new position via email notification form located in the Position Description Generator If PD template is desired, requests use of PD template in the email notification form

Personnel Representative’s Role:
Upon receiving the email notification form, completes new position request form in the Contact Information System and requests for a PD template, as necessary Enters position data in Peoplesoft
Position access will be available on the next business day after position data is entered in Peoplesoft

Supervisor’s responsibility:
Reviews pd template and makes any appropriate changes to the duties and responsibilities, essential functions, judgment exercised, originality, controls over position, or supervision exercised Adds minimum and desirable qualifications of position Certifies accuracy of position description and submits to Personnel Representative for review

Personnel Representative’s responsibility:
Personnel Representative reviews the request and makes an appropriate recommendation Requests are reviewed by the Fiscal Officer, Dean/Director, Chancellor, and OHR, if necessary.
