Utrecht University Short Stay Visiting Professorship
                                               2011 - 2012

The deadline for submitting applications is 15 May 2011

    1. Introduction
To enhance the successful collaboration between Utrecht University and its strategic international partners
(Utrecht University Partners, UUPs, see Annex 1), Utrecht University offers grants for visiting
professorships to or from UUPs. The purpose of these visiting professorships is to strengthen the existing
collaboration between UU and its partners and to explore and set up (external funded) cooperation
projects in research and/or education. To support a visiting professorship, a maximum of €5.000 can be
funded.

    2. Grant
For each of the selected visiting professor the Utrecht University faculty, department or institute
concerned will receive a maximum grant of € 5.000. Any additional funding will have to be arranged by
the applicants or partner institutions themselves.

    3. Eligibility and conditions
Applications by or for (associate) professors in one of the 15 UU Research Focus Areas
(www.uu.nl/EN/research/focusareas) are considered eligible. Applications can be submitted for a visit of a
Utrecht University (associate) professor to one of the Utrecht University Partners, or for a visit of a UUP
(associate) professor to UU. Do note that for both options the application should be submitted by a UU
(associate) professor. Only complete application will be considered eligible.
The visiting professor is expected to stay at the visiting institution for at least two weeks in total. The
schedule of the visit(s) should be agreed upon by both the sending and receiving faculty, department or
institute. They can decide to arrange the duration of the professorship in either one single visit or in
several (shorter) visits, this will not effect the maximum grant.
The deliverables of the visiting professorship will be a contribution to (post)graduate research and
(under)graduate teaching by lecturing or giving a master class. A public lecture can be included as well.
All agreed teaching and research arrangements should be included in the application. The visit of the
visiting professor should take place in the academic year 2011-2012. A report, including an overview of
deliverables, should be submitted within one month after the visiting professorship has ended.

    4. Organisation
Based on the budget in the application the UU grant of maximum € 5.000 will be transferred as an
advance payment to the faculty, department or institute of the selected UU applicant. After receiving the
grant the sending or receiving UU faculty, department or institute is responsible for arranging all further
(financial) practicalities of the visiting professorship such as health and liability insurance, visa, flight,
accommodation and allowance. The grant does not include organizational support. The organization of the
professorship is in the hands of the applicant.
