Overview: The focus of the second nine weeks continues with operations of rational numbers. The emphasis these nine weeks is on fractions.
Students build on prior experiences with fractions, whole numbers, integers and decimals to become competent working with all forms of these
numbers.
Underlying Processes: During this nine weeks students: Use the district problem solving model emphasizing look for a pattern and make a
table (8.14B and C); Communicate mathematically using language, physical, and algebraic models (8.15A); Use manipulatives and technology
to solve problems (8.14D); Make conjectures from patterns or sets of examples/non-examples (8.16A); And make connections to everyday
experiences (8.14A).

TAKS 2, 3, 4, 6

Overview: The focus of the third nine weeks is to: study proportionality and its applications especially through percent; build on prior
experiences with percents, fractions, whole numbers, integers and decimals to become competent working with all forms of these numbers;
study the measures of central tendency, and use different representations of data; find simple probability, sample spaces and make predictions.

Underlying Processes: During this nine weeks students: Use the district problem solving model selecting from draw a picture, look for a
pattern, guess and check, act it out, make a table, work a simpler problem or work backwards (8.14B and C); Communicate mathematically
using language, appropriate units, and physical models (8.15A); Use real objects, manipulatives, technology, estimation and number sense to
solve problems (8.14D); Validate conclusions using mathematical relationships (8.16B); And make connections to everyday experiences
(8.14A).
