This course is for people who aspire to work in applied print production as a Graphic Designer, Pre-press Operator, Advertising Artist or Graphic Artist. This course is designed as a foundation for learners to further progress to careers in production management within the Printing and Graphic Arts Industry. The course has an emphasis on information technology being used to create, design and draw representations and to communicate a concept. On successful completion of this course, learners will be able to develop creative images, apply creative images to print/design for print, understand print production, apply print production methods, utilise pre-press operation methods for print or electronic media and understand imposition and finishing. Areas of change management and work relationship principles, quality control processes and team and motivation principles are also covered. While some competencies in this course develop skills at varying AQF levels from 2 to 6, the overall outcome for a learner is consistent with the distinguishing features of a Diploma level in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework Implementation Handbook, 3rd Edition.
Competencies within this course require the learner to: • • demonstrate understanding of a broad knowledge base incorporating theoretical concepts, with substantial depth in some areas, for example, complex imposition analyse and plan approaches to technical problems or management requirements for example: in generating a complex imposition format for print production, to create, design, draw to represent and communicate a concept to analyse, plan and implement file formatting and preparation to analyse and plan the generation of high-end PDF files transfer and apply theoretical concepts and/or technical or creative skills to a range of situations evaluate information using it to forecast for planning or research purposes take responsibility for own outputs in relation to broad quantity and quality parameters in the print production environment take limited responsibility for the achievement of group outcomes.

Entry Requirements:
Entry is open to persons who: • have completed year 10 or equivalent, or • have relevant vocational experience with or without formal qualifications. Persons who have completed ICP30105 Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Graphic Design Production) will gain direct credit for any units of competency achieved that also contribute to this qualification.
Requirements To Receive The Qualification: Exit Points:
To receive 39229QLD Diploma of Graphic Design (Print Production), learners must complete all 24 core units of competency and three (3) elective units of competency. Learners who exit the course prior to completion will receive a Statement of Attainment for those competencies attained. All RTOs delivering this course must ensure that trainers meet the requirements of Standard 7 “The competence of RTO staff” within the AQTF Standards for Registered Training Organisations. As required for the Disability Standards for Education 2005, Registered Training Organisations must ensure that trainers possess current skills to meet the needs of diverse learners particularly people with a disability. This can be demonstrated through achievement of TAAENV402A Foster and promote an inclusive learning culture or evidence of equivalent skills.

All RTOs delivering the course must have access to the facilities, equipment, training and assessment materials required to provide the training and/or assessment services within its scope of registration and scale of operations, to accommodate client numbers, client needs, delivery methods and assessment requirements (including off-campus and on-line delivery), in accordance with the requirements of Standard 9.4 within the AQTF Standards for Registered Training Organisations.
