Frequently Asked Presales Questions at InfoCenter
BCS
Q1: I would like to ask if I can connect an MSA 30 in rx4640 or rx2620 with SA 6402 or 6404 and
the OS of the server is linux.
A1: Integrity rx4640 and rx2620 servers are supported with the MSA30 JBOD, but not with the
Smart Array 640x controller.

Q2: I need to know if I loose 1 core of PA8900 will the CPU continue running with the other
core?
A2: It depends on what the type of failure is. The 2nd core should work unless for example the
1st core dies and the cache dies too (die burn), in this case the 2nd core will die as well.

Q3: Is there a matrix showing which CPUs are supported with HP-UX 11.0 ? We try to upgrade
an rp5470 Server with now 4* 750MHz to faster CPUs. What do we have to consider when
configuring the Upgrade.
A3: Yes. The matrix shows, what the minimum OS distributions with Model/CPU dependancy
are:

      Model SUPPORTED MINIMUM
                        CPU'S(MHz) OS REQUIREMENTS
      L1000A 360,440 11.0 IPR 9906
      L1000B 360,440 11.0 IPR 9906
      (rp5400) 540 11.0 IPR 0009
                                              11i base
      L2000A 360,440 11.0 IPR 9906
      L2000B 360,440 11.0 IPR 9906
      (rp5450) 540 11.0 IPR 0009
                                              11i base
      L1500B 550,650,750 11.0 IPR 0109
      (rp5430) 11i IPR 0109
                        875 11i IPR 0206
      L3000A 550 11.0 IPR 0009
                                              11i base
      L3000B 550 11.0 IPR 0009
                                              11i base
      L3000B 650, 750 11.0 IPR 0109
      (rp5470) 11i IPR 0109
                        875 11i IPR 0206

So, for L3000B (rp5470) the minimum OS is 11.0 release media September 2001. It also
depends, what model you have. If you have the A version, then you need to upgrade to
revision B.

Q4: I need to know if in HP-UX11iV2 for Itanium we have, like in the past with HP-UX 11iV1, a
Vpar limited product? If yes, what is the limitation?
A4: The free version of Vpars is no longer available. Here is a quote from the original 2001
document "Installing and Managing HP-UX Virtual Partitions (vPars)" that compares the
limitations of the Free vs the Purchased product:
"Features of Free Versus Purchased Product. The free product has the following limitations not
present in the purchased product:
• the maximum number of virtual partitions is two
• there must be one virtual partition with only one CPU dedicated to it.
No additional CPUs can be allocated to this partition at any time.
All other features are fully functional within the given limitations. For example, although you
cannot migrate CPUs to the virtual partition with only one CPU dedicated to it, you can
migrate CPUs in any bound and unbound combination to and from the other partition."

EMEA Presales Technical Bulletin - March 2006 Page 3
Q5: Please can you advise if it is supported to put a 16GB memory module in 1 partition and
an 8GB memory module in the other? Salesbuilder says it isn't, however, looking at the Config
guides, it looks like it is supported, as long as you do not mix the modules.
A5: It is supported to put a 16GB memory module in 1 partition and an 8GB memory module
in the other. However, this configuration is only field applicable. The memory cannot be
mixed across a partition in the factory. Any memory mixing has to be done in the field. This is
a factory limitation at this point in time.

Q6: Can you tell me if A6436AN#001 is still available, and if not, what has it been replaced
by?
A6: There has been a mistake and the A6436AN #001 has been marked as obsolete but it is
not valid. This product is still temporary off CPL. In order to solve this issue, you have to
contact your partner account manager and discuss with him further steps.

Storage
Q1: Is it supported to access HSG80 and EVA (new 4/6/8K family) based storage from the
same server? (This may also be a multi-vendor environment so any recommendations on HBA
versions would also be appreciated)?
A1: There is no supported co-existence of HSG80 and EVA XL from the same HBA (or pair) as
there is no longer a common Emulex or qlogic driver for both arrays. (Although, please note
that there is such a common driver for the EVA3000/5000 and the HSG80.)

Q2: The “Fan In” and “Fan Out” feature on the Wan Accelerator, is it enabled by a license or
is this as indicated in the Quick Spec?
A2: The “Fan In” and “Fan Out” figures are as indicated in the Wan Accelerator Quick Spec
only for the models it shows as a feature. No License is needed to enable it.

Q3: What hardware is recommended for Command View? 1 or 2 CPU etc?
A3: A DL380 G4 recommended single processor 1.33GHz, 2GB RAM with a fibre channel HBA
for EVA Management.

Q4: Can you please clarify the situation with regards to the "Fast Recovery Solution" for the
EVA. The Quick spec seems to suggest this is for the new EVA’s (4/6/8K) only, but if you look at
the EVA3K supported software it does list Fast Recovery.
A4: FRS is available for the EVA 3000/5000 but you need to raise a deal exception. And yes -
you are correct; it will be productized shortly due to the 3-phase snapclone mechanism with
VCS 4.001.

Q5: Is the EVA 4000/6000/8000 certified in a Non-HP rack?
A5: We have no updated 3rd party rack guide, but the advice from the worldwide EVA
product manager is to use the existing document to determine supportability:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/eva3000/EK-3RSUP-TE.pdf
The only difference between generations is that the controller pair is 1U higher - apart from
that, everything is equivalent, and anything not covered in this document is a deal
exception.

Q6: Is there a way to do Snaps for MSSQL and EXCHANGE when they are connected to
Proliant storage server NAS with ISCSI link without taking down the application?
A6: When you have installed SQL and Exchange iSCSI agents on the host servers, the
Application does not need to be taken down during a snapshot, it is quiesced for a few
seconds so that all outstanding I/Os can finish their transactions until the snapshot is taken
and then all is resumed back to normal.

EMEA Presales Technical Bulletin - March 2006 Page 4
Q7: Vmware seems to be supported for CA and for Blades. However, I heard that MPIO isn't
supported on Opteron yet but I can't find supporting documentation. Do you have anything
to back this up or clear it for use?
A7: Vmware ESX doesn’t use MPIO… It uses its own multipathing version (MPIO Like). You can
not use both in the same setup, you must use the Vmware version ….you can’t use anything
else, see this presentation http://www.vmware.com/vmworld/2005/pac267-a.pdf

Q8: Will Business Copy help in minimizing the backup windows time? By first doing local
replication, then backing up to tape?
A8: Yes - a clone, once it has normalized, and especially if it is exported to a different disk
group, will keep the load away from the production volumes during backup. However, a lot
of this is based on the assumption that the EVA is not already running at capacity.

Q9: Is MSA with active/active MS cluster a supported configuration?
A9: If you are referring to active/active cluster nodes then yes - there are no problems with
this. If you are referring to active/active controllers on the MSA, then this is scheduled for May
with the MSA1500.

Q10: Which MPIO do I need for Windows 2003 x64 and MSA1000? Is this supported? Because
we have seen contradictory information between SPOCK (MPIO is supported with x64) and
the previous link (no info about x64).
A10: The current shipping MPIO does NOT support x64 Windows. It does support IA-64
Windows. We will have version 1.20 out next week that WILL support x64 Windows. We may
not have WQHL signatures for this version by next week, but we can release the driver for
those customers who must have this support. We will have full WQHL support by April.

ISS
Q1: Are there any plans for Dual-Core Opterons in ML ProLiants?
A1: Nothing mentioned in latest Roadmaps.

Q2: Where can I find Windows XP drivers for the ML110G2 onboard SCSI adapter?
A2: The lack of support for this OS means (inter alia) that there are no drivers available. Please
use supported OS. http://www.hp.com/go/supportos

Q3: Can I upgrade my DL585 with Dual-Core processors?
A3: Yes, you can do this just by replacing Single-Core CPUs with Dual-Core kits and upgrading
firmware.
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantdl585/questionsanswers.html#a4

Q4: After replacing the PCI-X riser board by the redundant power supply, there will be a gap
left. How can I fill it?
A4: In the PN 293703-B21 (redundant power supply), the blanking panel is included. You can
also use the spare part 305452-001 alone.

Q5: Can I mount HP server into a third party rack?
A5: HP servers are supported in third party racks, but HP does not offer any help with the
mounting process.

Q6: Can the DL320 VPN solution be upgraded later to newer version?
A6: This does not depend on HP. The license (and upgrade) policy is directed by the software
vendor (Microsoft).

EMEA Presales Technical Bulletin - March 2006 Page 5
Q7: Are evaluation versions of RDP possible to combine? When a 7-day is installed, can it be
prolonged by 30-day one?
A7: According to this document
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/rdp/knowledgebase/00000136.
html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN the license key can be replaced.

Q8: Are Smart Array controllers supported in NetServers?
A8: No, there are not supported.

Q9: Can a second 2-bay hot-plug cage be used in the ML350G4p?
A9: No, just one is supported.

Q10: Do we need to order one or two pieces of 398307-B21 when two drives are required?
A10: Just one, this PN contains one cable with two disk connectors.

SOFTWARE
Q1: Does OVPA 4.5 support ARM v4?
A1: No, not at present. ARM v4 support is under consideration for the next release of OVPA in
2H06, but this is not yet a definite feature.

Q2: The actual support matrix states that "only" remote monitoring is supported for SAP on
Tru64 Server. Is there any information if the next version of SAP SPI for OVOW supports it on
Tru64 ?
A2: There are currently no plans to support SAP-SPI natively on Tru64. As HP and SAP
announced End-of-Life for Tru64 there is not enough business potential to port and support
Tru64.

Q3: When will SNVP 8.0 support Oracle 10g?
A3: SNVP 8.5 when released will support Oracle 10g, there are no plans for SNVP 8.0 to
support 10g.

Q4: Is the SNVP software available externally for customers to download?
A4: The SNVP software is part of the OVO/U media bundle.
For HP internal use you can find this software listed in the overview:
ftp://nsmdftp.deu.hp.com/products/OVO/g_OVO_8.x/OVO8.1x_Media_Kit_Overview_of_all_i
ncluded_CDs.htm
For external use customers can download the evaluation copy via:
http://partners.openview.hp.com/ovcw/demo/eval/list.jsp#servnav

Q5: Does OVPI support MS-SQL?
A5: Currently MS-SQL is not supported with OVPI but this is in plan for future version of OVPI.

Q6: When will the Web Console be available for SD 5.0?
A6: The SD 5.0 Web Console will most probably be delivered with SD 5.0 Service Pack 1.
Initially, it was planned to deliver the Web Console together with SD 5.0 at MR but it lacked
some features to be put in operation with the level of quality and satisfaction customers
would expect.
Therefore, we would like to position Java Web Start as a very convincing alternative to the
HTML-based Web UI. This tool allows for an easy and effective deployment of the SD 5.0 Java
client.

Q7: Which languages are supported with SD 5.0?
A7: Currently, we only support English language with SD 5.0. There is no localization available
as of today. It is planned to introduce localization in the September 2006 timeframe.

EMEA Presales Technical Bulletin - March 2006 Page 6
Q8: Does DP 5.5 provide an online integration for Oracle 10G Release 2?
A8: Yes, with DP 5.5 we provide an online integration for Oracle 10G on various platforms. This
includes the support of Oracle 10G Release 2. We do not make any differences between
these releases.

Q9: What are the plans to provide an online integration for MySQL?
A9: As of today there aren't any plans to support MySQL online backup.

Q10: Do we support ZDB on the EVA with Windows 2003 64-bit OS as application/backup
host?
A10: Yes, ZDB on EVA using SMI-S support has finally made available for Windows 2003 64-bit
on Itanium. SSPNT550_080 provides the necessary changes.

Q11: When can we expect a DP SPI that allows the integration with OVO/W 7.5?
A11: A new version of the DP SPI which will include support for OVO/W 7.5 is already planned.
The lab release version of the new DP SPI will be available along with the DP 6.0 release.

Q12: Are there any plans to support Novell OES with DP?
A12: The DP Lab is currently running an investigation for this support. We expect to have some
updates in the next-coming weeks.

HP StorageWorks Rapid Backup for mySAP Business Suite on EVA
This solution expands the accessibility to customer's data dramatically, with only very little
impact to the production system for backup.
It integrates SAP BRBACKUP tool and HP StorageWorks technology. Backup operations are
completed using streaming backup data from a mirror copy (business continuance volume)
instead of an original disk, which minimizes the impact on the production system and backup
operation management simplifies. The solution simply reduces the backup window – seen
from SAP – from hours to minutes.
The solution contributes to the data management capabilities of our Information Lifecycle
Management offering within the ENSAextended vision and the Adaptive Enterprise Strategy.
The solution comes along with a set of sales tools:
• business blueprint (external available)
• technical blueprint (solution family paper) (external available)
• customer presentation

HP StorageWorks Disaster Tolerance Solution for mySAP Business Suite on EVA
The solution enhances high availability features with the disaster tolerant capabilities of HP
StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA, maintaining application performance dependant on
the distance between the two replication sites
The solution contributes to the data management capabilities of our Information Lifecycle
Management offering within the ENSAextended vision and the Adaptive Enterprise Strategy.
Important: The solution is - in a nutshell - a CA EVA qualification for SAP environments. As our
testings showed, that there are issues to be expected and the available sales tools are
applicable to other environments as well, please feel free to use CA EVA for SAP in all NSS
supported environments along with our here released guidelines.

Business Intelligence in SAP NetWeaver 2004s: No Longer Just a Business Information
Warehouse
SAP started out with a stand-alone product called SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP
BW). Business Intelligence (as mySAP BI) came into use as we expanded our features within
the component itself and by bundling with other components. SAP felt that BI, as a broader
(and industry-standard) term, was a better description of the solution. Today we recognize
the full integration of BI with the other components of the platform by referring to it as SAP
NetWeaver 2004s. Read more.

HP and Oracle Increase Commitment to Advance Customer Adoption of HP Integrity Solutions
As part of HP and Oracle's alliance to help enterprises optimize business operations, the
companies have increased their commitment to HP Integrity servers running Oracle®
software.

EMEA Presales Technical Bulletin - March 2006 Page 9
Highlighting the news, Oracle today announced that Oracle's 10g infrastructure software,
Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Enterprise Manager, as well as the

NonStop Servers
TCP/IP Ethernet Failover Explained
HP NonStop systems are known for their fault tolerance and this fundamental value extends
to the system’s communications capabilities. This is important to consider, since
communications is one of the areas most sensitive to application-level disruption which can
quickly lead to customer dissatisfaction. For example, if an Internet user cannot access a
needed application, he or she will often conclude that a company’s whole system is down.
The Ethernet failover feature, now supplied on both HP Integrity NonStop and NonStop S-series
servers, allows two Ethernet adapters to be configured as a pair for fault tolerance. This
protects against disruptions because if one adapter malfunctions, the other automatically
assumes its role. When the failed component comes back online, the system seamlessly
resumes dual active operations.
A recently updated white paper, entitled TCP/IP Ethernet failover explained, provides
detailed information about how it all works, as well as configuration and management
specifics.

CME Runs High-growth Electronic Trading Business on HP NonStop and Integrity NonStop
Servers
Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), the largest, most diverse financial exchange in the
world for trading futures and options, runs its high-performance electronic trading on the HP
NonStop platform. NonStop servers, including a beta Integrity NonStop server, give CME the
following key benefits:
        • The ability to handle peak transaction volumes exceeding 13 million a day, with an
average response time of less than 55 milliseconds
        • Continuous availability that is critical to the electronic trading business
        • The scalability to handle phenomenal growth in volume (400 percent in five years)

“In this business, you don’t like to see your name in the paper because a computer problem
has shut down the markets prematurely,” says Frank Cote, CME’s associate director of
Tandem Technology Services. “The continuous availability of the NonStop platform virtually
eliminates that worry for us.”

Memory Technology Evolution: An Overview of System Memory Technologies
The widening performance gap between processors and memory along with the growth of
memory-intensive business applications are driving the need for better memory technologies
for servers and workstations. Consequently, there are several memory technologies on the
market at any given time. HP evaluates developing memory technologies in terms of price,
performance, and backward compatibility and implements the most promising technologies
in ProLiant servers. HP is committed to providing customers with the most reliable memory at
the lowest possible cost.

This paper summarizes the evolution of memory technology and provides an overview of
some of the newest memory technologies that HP is evaluating for servers and workstations.
The purpose is to allay some of the confusion about the performance and benefits of the
dynamic random access memory (DRAM) technologies on the market.
