1st September 2006, Singapore (updated 24 February 2007) –
Fitness First has taken top spot in worldwide rankings as the fitness chain with the most
number of clubs owned worldwide. As reported by the industry trade body International
Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), Fitness First had a total of 440
clubs worldwide as of 31 Dec 2005. The figure is set to rise as Fitness First has plans for
at least 40-50 new clubs to open every year.

In Asia, there are currently 55 clubs with 12 new clubs opening in 2006 and 20 new clubs
projected to open in 2007.

“Fitness First is the #1 Global Fitness Company with representation in 15 countries. The
company is fast approaching 500 clubs worldwide and has more than 1.3million
members. With approximately 50 new clubs per year opening in existing countries and
continued expansion into new territories, Fitness First is clearly the market leader in the
fitness industry", Mike Lamb, Group Managing Director, Asia.

About Fitness First worldwide

Fitness First is the largest health club operator in the world* with 500 clubs and more than
1.3 million members spread across Asia, Australia, Continental Europe and the U.K. This
is a huge achievement since the company began with just one club in Bournemouth (UK)
in 1992.

In September 2005, the company was taken private by private equity firm BC Partners for
£835million. This is remarkable as it almost doubles the value that private equity group
Cinven paid when it took over ownership of the company from Fitness First founder Mike
Balfour just 2 years prior for £400million. The fact that this took place just 2 years after
Cinven acquired its shareholding reflects the strong performance of Fitness First and its
outstanding prospects for the future.

Fitness First's success shows that it has the right formula to meet the increasing demand
for high quality fitness facilities and services. Fitness First is the only really global fitness
company enjoying leadership positions in all its major markets.

BC Partners are very excited about the prospect for significant growth in the Asian region.
The 5 Year Plan will see Fitness First exceed 100 clubs by 2009 in Asia excluding new
