        Introduction:
Individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are faced with the necessity of acquiring
new skills and making difficult behavioral lifestyle changes in order to achieve
targeted treatment goals. By entering into a collaborative, patient centered
partnership, nurses may be instrumental in facilitating health behaviors that
lead to optimal health for individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Understanding
the concept of partnership within the nurse-patient relationship is important
for nurses in meeting patient expectations, enhancing better treatment results
and achieving a greater satisfaction with delivering and receiving nursing
care. The purpose of this poster presentation is to illustrate the current
state of knowledge for the concept of partnership within the nurse-patient
                                    relationship.
        Method(s):
A substantive review of the literature was conducted through CINAHL, PubMed,
PsycINFO, and The Cochrane Library databases using the key words -partnership',
-nurse patient relationship', -concept analysis', and -concept formation'.
Articles were reviewed if they highlighted current ideas and themes regarding
the concept of partnership in nursing.
        Results:
From 1982 to 2008, the number of citations listed in CINAHL for the key word
-partnership' increased dramatically, thus signifying the importance of the
concept of partnership within the nurse-patient relationship. The concept
of partnership has been widely investigated in a variety of health care settings,
across many disciplines. Eight critical attributes were consistently identified
                         throughout the literature.
