Lab Monitor Duties Photo Area The Media Cage operator recruits monitors each semester. Interested students should be aware of duties and fill out the lab monitor application. Monitor positions are unpaid, but each monitor receives 24-hour access to the darkroom. Duties: The lab monitor is an active presence in the darkroom. You are to be in the lab during your assigned time slot. You are to be approachable, accessible, and professional. The Key you receive is a privilege extended to you, not to be used by others. Use common sense, do not sleep on the job, enforce lab policy, assist students who need it, and enjoy your privilege. 1. Each Monitor will be assigned tasks to contribute to the maintenance of the Labs and workspaces. Monitors are required to fulfill these tasks in a thorough and timely manner. Failure to do so will result in termination. 2. Clean up any accumulation of scraps or clutter, in addition to assigned tasks. 3. Collect Cards and enforce sign-in and safety regulations, as well as police darkroom etiquette - goggles, towels, clean-up... 4. Monitor the use or misuse of the lab. Only registered students are allowed in the lab. No non-students are allowed. 5. Provide some technical assistance to students in the lab, as well as address the use of equipment - making note of any broken, damaged or left behind materials. 6. Sign off on private lab check lists. Each student using a private lab will need to have a reviewed checklist at the end of their session. 7. Mediate disputes between students and provide documentation of any disputes, which may occur between students or student and monitor. 8. Lab Monitoring continues until the last day of classes. Return your key to the cage after the last Open Lab day to avoid a hold on your account.
