General Education
EN 1- Communication Arts Skills, Part I
This course provides the students knowledge of the nature of language and how it operates.
It provides basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. It features activities to
enlarge and widen the experiences of the students. It utilizes interdisciplinary approach to
stimulate the learners to apply rules in grammar and composition as they undertake discussion
relevant to their line of specialization. Likewise, it equips students with the needed skills in the
use of the library.

EN 2- Communication Skills, P-2
This course provides learning continuum of the communication skills. It involves
development of the more complex skills with the particular emphasis on sentence and paragraph
effectiveness. It includes reading and analyzing of some paragraphs. It emphasizes preparation
of a research paper.

EN 3- Speech and Oral Communication
The course provides students with communicative skills in dealing with essays, short
stories, novels, poems, and drama among others in the local, national and international scenes.
The entire program is geared towards producing a student who is not only competent in writing
and fluent in speaking but also a student who writes and speaks with substance, conscious of
issues on gender sensitivity, political, social and environmental issues and imbued with
Augustinian Filipino values.

EN 4- Introduction to Literary Types
This course is a brief study of types of literary works aimed at equipping the students with
the basic knowledge of poetry, drama, short story, essay and novel.

EN 5- Phil. Literature in English
The course is a survey of Philippine writings in English from its early beginnings to its
flourishing and maturity. The various literary types are taken up to enable students to understand
and classify works of Filipino writers. It evaluates the place of the Filipino writers in the English
speaking world (international writers and their contribution to the Philippine literary heritage in
English.)

EN 9- Effective and Technical Writing
This course discusses the writing process: namely artistic and informative. It teaches
explicit principles of writing, offers illustrative models and provides specific writing and usage
practice. It stresses on the three steps in composing: planning, writing, and revising. Training for
a variety of purpose-narration, description, exposition and persuasion is provided.
This course provides the students the necessary tools in writing technical reports related to
their area of inclination, likewise it focuses on format, style, structures and application of
technical writing. Moreover, this course focuses on strategies and tools the students can use to
produce excellent technical documents in any common delivery methods.

FI 3- Retorika at Semantika
Ang kursong ito ay tumutukoy sa maikling pagsulat kaugnay ng apat na paraan ng
pagpapahayag; paglalarawan, pagsasalaysay, paglalahad at pangangatwiran na may pokus sa
iba’t-ibang istilo ng wika. Ito ay lilinang ng kasanayan sa pagpapahayag nang pagsasalita at

MA 1- Modern College Algebra
This course is designed for freshmen college students to develop their skills that will enable
them to study effectively more advance courses. Topics involve Polynomials, Special Products
and Factoring, Fractions, Radicals, Linear, Quadratic and Polynomial Equations, Inequalities,
Relations and Functions, Systems of Equations, Ratio, Proportion and Variation, Progressions,
Determinants, Mathematical Induction, Binomial Theorem and Partial Fraction. It also covers a
review of fundamental operations and processes for the understanding and mastery the
fundamental knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. It includes the application of the
aforementioned mathematical concepts and skills in finding and solving for the solutions of real
world problems.

STAT 1- Bio Statistics
This course presents Statistics as a tool in decision-making particularly in Health Sciences.
This includes the collection, processing, analysis and interpretation of numerical data.
This is for freshmen of the Allied Medical Sciences as a means to develop skills that will
enable them to study effectively more advance courses especially in their own field/research.
Topics involve the different measures of Location and Variation, Calculations and Applications
of the different statistical tools in research, the theories in the different Probabilities, the different
measures of Relationships, and theories and concepts of Inferential Statistics. It also covers a
review of fundamental operations and processes, and the application of the aforementioned
statistical concepts and skills in finding and solving for the solutions of the real world problems.

NS 1- Biological Science
Biological Science consists of elementary principles in General Biology concerning living
organisms. Structures, functions and interrelationships of respective higher plants and animals
and discussed. It makes use of demonstrations of the importance of Biology as it relates to
practical community living.

NS 2- Physical Sciences
This course covers a comprehensive presentation of Physics, Chemistry, Geology, and
Astronomy. It provides a developmental understanding of the basic concepts in physical sciences.
It attempts to present a balanced science learning in the basic fundamental concepts of physical
science principles. Some problems are selected to provide students with an opportunity to
experience the quantitative aspects of science.

CHEM 1- Gen. & Inorganic Chemistry
This a 5- unit laboratory course which is an introduction to atomic structure and chemical
bonding, the periodic table, stoichiometry, kinetic theory of gases, properties of liquids and
solids, chemical equilibria, the gas laws and the colligative properties of solution. The basic
preference in classroom activity are lecture and discussion with problem base discussion as the
predominant approach.

ZOO 1- General Zoology
General Zoology deals with the study of animal life. This subject explains the interrelation
between the importance of the structure (morphology) and the effects of functions (Physiology)
of living forms of animals and the most recent group, the board division of invertebrates and
vertebrates the general classification and naming of species (taxonomy) the inheritance and
variations (Genetics) etc. This subject hopes to open a wider venue of interest in discovering the
whole feature of the man with whom complexity of parts are visible. Furthermore, it serves as a
basis to pursuing related courses.

PHY 1- General Physics with lab
Physics deals with the study of matter and energy and the explanation of the occurrences of
the natural phenomena. Physics concentrates on the different subdivisions as: Mechanics, Heat,
Light, Electricity, Magnetism, Waves, Sound, and Optics. This course program begins with the
fundamental concepts of energy and matter applicable to a wide variety of situations. As the
course proceeds, the learner learns to relate these varieties of ideas both to each other and new
situations. Simultaneously, he is introduced to such problem solving tools as measurement,
operational definitions, model buildings and experimentations. Finally equipped with repertoire
or powerful ideas and intellectual skills, the student faces more complex problems that extend
well beyond the classroom. The last experience given towards the end of the course provides the
transition between the laboratory and life toward which the entire course program is directed.
In this course, Physics 1, the students will concentrate on the discussion of Mechanics,
Sounds, and Wave Motion. This program tends the students more interested in the search and
discovery of the nature of his physical environment. It makes the students participate in the
discovery of truth, develop his scientific thinking and decision making, motivates him to help
solve environmental problems, develop the community and enhance human welfare.

ANA 1- Human Anatomy and Physiology
The course provides an introduction to the concepts of the basic anatomic and physiological
nomenclature. It includes the general organizations and functions of the human body. It is also
concerned with the gross anatomy of the different systems of the body, which includes the skeletal,
muscular, nervous, respiratory, lymphatic, endocrine, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems.

The course deals with the physiological and pathogenic properties of bacteria, fungi and
viruses as an introduction to disease causation. Deals with the component of immune system and
host-parasite interaction.

Logic is the art and science of correct reasoning. It deals with the correct fundamental
concepts and laws of logic and their use in scientific pursuits.

PH 2- Philosophy of Man
The course focuses on the philosophical inquiry into man as perceived by ancient,
medieval, modern and contemporary philosophers. It contains insights or theories that have
bearing on education with emphasis on the Filipino in the context of his culture and society.

PSY 1- General Psychology
This course is intended to provide students with a broad coverage of the conceptual and
empirical foundations of Psychology in its main fields, focusing on complex human behavior:
how and why we think, feel and behave the way we do, how we act and interact with others and
why and how we become the unique individuals that we are. It also aims to provide students
opportunities for better self-awareness, interpersonal relations and cultivation of faith of a true
Christian with Augustinian values.
This course is intended as a subject for freshmen or sophomore college students without
any prerequisite, carrying three 3 academic units.
The conduct of the course will be done three (3) hours a week, a great deal of class
discussion, individual and group activities and consisting interaction among students.

SS 1- Society and Culture
This course is designed as an introduction to sociology and anthropology. It introduces the
students to concept and theories on culture, personality, social organization, social change and
status which are germane to the two disciplines and which will be important to the daily lives and
social encounters of the students.
The course will involve student’s participation in research, debate, case study and exposure
activities.
The subject is based on Augustinian spirituality which is embodied in the URC Mission,
Vision, Goals and Core Values.

SS 2-Philippine Government and New Constitution
The Philippine Government and New Constitution is fundamental to the study of the
Philippine political law. The subject covers the organization and operations of the government,
plans of the state and the fundamental law of the land; the 1987 Constitution as an instrument of
the government for the development of Filipino citizen.
The subject will enable the students to participate in research, debate, case study and
exposure activities.

SS 3- Philippine History
Philippine History proposes to develop the understanding of the Filipino identity and
culture. It deals with the political and social institutions established in the country at different
points in time. It would help the students to appreciate their historical and cultural roots. It aims
to look at documents to ensure their objectivity and basis for the perspectives being utilized in the
study of the country’s history.

The course deals with Rizal’s life, experience and travels and emphasizes on the works and
writing of Rizal especially on his two novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. It also
includes a study of his painting, letter, essays and speeches.

This is a course on the basics of economics. Topics include supply & demand; optimizing
economic behavior, prices & wages; factors of production, interest rates; unemployment;
inflation; the Phil. Tax system; & government spending. An overview of taxation & agrarian
reform is also included.

CS 1- Basic Computer Concepts
Major components of the computer system; information system development; nature of the
computer; (characteristics, capabilities, limitations, types, and parts); number system;
flowcharting; arithmetic operations; windows 95/98; and introduction to Microsoft office 98,
especially MSWORD, MSEXCEL, and MSPOWERPOINT.

RES- Research
This course is designed to help the students develop basic research and writing skills. It
also combines the use of the process and product approach to writing, giving equal importance to
the composing and revising strategies employed by the students and the rhetorical conventions
reflected in the research paper.
To make research more engaging and interesting to students, the course draws on the
benefits of collaboration in order to accomplish minor tasks that lead to the completion of the
major project.

TH 1- Salvation History
The course on Theology 1, Salvation History, constitutes the basic Catholic prayers,
narrative stories of the Jewish people found in the Bible, particularly the Old Testament. The
course is a brief introduction to the Old Testament in general which focuses on the development
of Israel’s historical literature and theological insights from Abraham down to the first century
B.C. This historical-Biblical overview is followed by a more detailed study of the TORAH with
special emphasis on the Books of the Pentateuch.

TH 2- New Testament/ Christology
The course on Theology 2, Christology will study the person of Jesus and the impact of His
life, ministry, passion, death and resurrection to the Christians through the centuries. This course
presents insights on the significance of the earthly Jesus and the Christ of faith as experienced by
the early Christians as well as Christians throughout the years until the present. It is but fitting to
begin the study and reflection with a background on the time, place and culture that molded the
personality of the man, called Jesus of Nazareth.

TH 3- Church-Ecclesiology
The course on Theology 3 aims to study the origin, foundation and mission of the Church.
The course begins with a concise introduction to the Church history, which focuses on the
liturgical life of the church from the birth of Jesus Christ to the present. The study is Scripture
based in which formation of faith is the main concern. It is a discipline that combines reason and
faith in knowing, loving and worshipping God. The context of the course is basically faith-life
experience rooted in the Sacred Scriptures, Augustinian Spirituality and the official teachings of
the Church. The students are required to submit theological reflections and research activities at
the end of the semester. As a Catholic-Augustinian institution, the course is designed for URC
college students to strengthen their religious foundation in the Catholic Faith.

TH 4- Liturgy and Sacraments
The course on theology 4 consists of Liturgy as the embodiment of Church’s activities
necessary to continue the mission of Christ. Greatest emphasis is given to the Eucharist as the
Liturgy of the Church. It also presents the characteristic of the Church as a Worshipping
Community. The sacraments are presented as signs and instruments by which the Holy Spirit
spreads the grace of Christ the Head throughout the Church. It is scripture based showing the
unfolding of God’s plan or “sacrament” of salvation.

TH 5- Moral Theology
The course on Theology 5 introduces to the students the concept and ramifications of
Christian morality. Its content and context are basically faith-life experiences rooted in the
Scripture, Tradition, Magisterium and other authoritative sources. It is a discipline that combines
reason and faith in knowing, loving, worshipping and serving God through an ethically-oriented
Christian life.

TH 6- Lay Apostolate
The course on Theology 6 is an application of students’ faith knowledge into community
service. It integrates learning from Theology 1 to 5. Such integrated knowledge will be an
effective guide and tool to community work thus, make them better Christians. This course also
stresses the role of the Laity in the mission of the Church as Christ mission.

This course deals with the different concepts and activities that aim to develop the Physical
Fitness of the students. It comprises various exercises/aerobics and Physical Fitness tests that
will enhance the Physical Fitness of students.

This course contains dance combination with set patterns. They have completed and casual
relaxed movements. This will give students a chance to learn basic dance steps in Latin
American Dances and Standard Modern Dance. Different forms of Physical Education are
required to engage the Kinesthetic Intelligence, one of the seven avenues of learning. Physical
Education is not limited to fitness but includes intramurals athletics events, and classroom
instruction that may involve “presenting, demonstrating, discussing, and experimenting.”

NCM 100 – Foundations of Nursing
This course provides the student with the overview of nursing as a science, an art, and a profession.
It includes a discussion on the different roles of a nurse emphasizing on health promotion, illness
prevention utilizing the nursing process as a basis for nursing practice.

NCM 101 – Promotive and Preventive Nursing Care Management
The course is designed to provide the students the developmental theories and concepts to
critically analyze health needs and concerns of the individual, family and community. Classroom
and Related Learning Experiences provides the students with activities to develop SKA and
values on health promotion and identification and management of risk factors.

NCM 102 – Curative and Rehabilitative Nursing Care Management
Concepts and principles of nursing care management of clients with alterations in human
functioning across the life span in varied health settings.

NCM 103 (Related Learning Experience)
This RLE focuses on the enhancement of student skills by previous concepts given in NCM
101, 102.

NCM 104 – Curative and Rehabilitative Nursing Care Management
Concepts and principles of nursing care management of clients with alterations in human

NCM 105 – Nursing Leadership and Management
The course is designed to provide the students the theories, and principles utilized by the nurse to
function independently and in collaboration with others in varied health care settings. It focuses on the
development of skills in management, leadership and interpersonal relationships. The ethico-legal,
spiritual and cultural aspects of nursing practice and responsibilities of the nurse for personal and
professional growth are emphasized

CHD- Community Health Development
Focuses on the in-depth discussion of the principles, approaches, strategies, and processes
to community health development. Equips the students with the principles of health education as
a core of Community Organizing Participatory Action Research (COPAR) model

NUT 1- Nutrition and Dietetics
The study of Nutrition is of prime importance throughout a person’s life. It is interrelated
with other basic needs: physical, physiological, emotional, psychological, sociological and
economic factors. This course deals with the study of the requirements of the body for vital
nutrients, the importance of a well-balanced diet and the diet therapy requirement for clients with
alterations in human functioning.

The course provides the students with the basic/necessary knowledge, skills and acceptable
attitudes in the care of individuals and their families. It includes comfort measures applied to
individual clients.

MID 101- Midwifery Practice 1(Lec/RLE-2/1)
The course deals with the concepts of normal pregnancy, labor and delivery. Concepts related
to Natural Planning (NFP) and Responsible Parenthood is already introduced. It includes
intravenous insertion, vaginal examination and suturing.

MID 102- Midwifery Practice 2 (Lec/RLE-4/4)
The course deals with the concepts of: (a) complications of pregnancy, its causes and
management; (b) family planning inclusive of NFP reinforcements and continuation; as well as
commonly accepted, Church taught safe artificial modes of Family Planning; (c) care of
infants/children.

RLE/MID 103- Midwifery Practice 3 (Lec/RLE-2/2)
The course deals with the legal aspects of Midwifery Practice. It includes career development and
current trends and issues affecting health care and midwifery practice. It also provides enhancement of the
practice of midwifery skills which includes strategies of health teaching and education of clients.

CAREGIVER PROGRAM
This course is a competency- based program in care giving which proposes to develop the
knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies of a trainee who intends to enter the workplace.
This is designed to equip a trainee with the relevant employable skills in care giving for him/her
to provide quality service in performing the job in a private household or an institution, in local
and overseas employment.
The Caregiver in the Workplace
This module provides basic concepts on care giving job including the rights and privileges,
government regulations and requirements of a caregiver.
Care of Infant and child
This focuses on the introduction of basic concepts and principles on understanding the
physical, social and emotional aspects of a child from its birth to school age. This includes
application of basic processes on caring for them. It also incorporates Anatomy and Physiology
for infants/child by studying the structure and composition of each organs and system of the
body.
Care of the Elderly
This includes basic concepts, theories and principles in understanding the physical and
psychological aspects of aging. This provides application in the proper carte and support for the
elderly. And also, incorporating Anatomy & physiology for the elderly by studying the structure
and composition of each organ and system of the body.
Care for People with Special Needs
This includes knowledge and skills in handling and caring of people with special needs. It
also incorporates Anatomy & Physiology for the People with Special Needs by studying the
structure and composition of each organ and system of the body.
Food and Nutrition
This covers basic concepts on foods and nutrition, meal planning and preparing foods for
the family. This includes actual planning and actual preparation of foods for the family.
Managing a Healthy and safe Home Environment
This includes concepts, principles and application of managing a healthy and safe
environment. This covers, sanitation, hygiene, home nursing, cleansing, care of clothes,
resources management, marketing and related topics.
First Aid and Emergencies
This course focuses on basic concepts and application on responding to emergencies. It
includes CPR, First-aid nursing care.
Work Ethics
This module deals with the concepts and principles on personality development and good
grooming, proper decorum and awareness of legal provisions of caring for the elderly.
