Home Visits

Dear Parents / Carers

This year we are again able to offer our new children and their families the option of a home visit
before starting school. As we only have a little time to visit as many children as possible we will focus
our visits initially on children who are coming to us with no previous connection to St Richard’s, those
coming to us with only a few friends from their nursery and those children whose parents feel that a
home visit may be important. Perhaps they may have a child who may need more specific help when they
start school. We should have enough time to meet everyone who wants to see us.

We hope that these visits will help to form a bond between teachers, and children about to start school.
By meeting at home we can start to build a relationship from a position where your child is confident,
that is, at home with their things around them. These visits are about developing a connection between
you, your child and his/her teacher and helping us try to begin to understand how we can make your
child’s first few weeks in school less stressful and more productive. This is not about checking on what
your home is like or how many books you have!

We hope to bring in photographs, children’s work, toys, games and other things, even a video / DVD of
what happens in school to give the new children some idea of what school is like.

Please do not feel pressured into taking up the offer of a home visit, we realise many parents will
be working and not able to take part.

If you would like to take up the offer of a home visit please return the slip below to the school office or
bring it with you to the Initial Parents Meeting.
