Areas where sampling is done have to be chosen
randomly. This is ensured in Cambodia by the PPS
                                                 (probability proportionate to size) method.
Wards for sampling are chosen randomly from a list
of total wards for the city. The higher population

wards are given a higher probability of being chosen.
By this way, all households have an equal probability
of being chosen. This ensures that the sample is
                                                 geographically representative of the city.

Starting with a random number, each Kecamatan was
selected systematically using an interval equal to the

This resulted in the selection of 50 Kecamatan.

Areas where sampling is done have to be chosen
randomly. This is ensured in Myanmar by the PPS
                                         (probability proportionate to size) method.
Wards for sampling are chosen randomly from a list of
total wards for the city. The higher population wards
                  (First stage)
are given a higher probability of being chosen. By this
way, all households have an equal probability of being
chosen. This ensures that the sample is geographically
                                         representative of the city.

Within a ward identified for sampling the households
are chosen randomly using a Right Hand Walk Rule.
Households will be contacted in clusters around the

Rule. From the first household contacted, two
  in detail
households are skipped and the next one contacted,
                                         we called it “interval=3”.

The above two steps ensure that the households for the
survey have been contacted randomly. However, this
is not enough to ensure randomness, as there may be
more than one eligible member per Household. If we
just interview the first eligible member who was
                  (Third stage)
available at the time of fieldwork, this will lead to a
non –random sample. For example it can lead to an
over representation of women as women are easier to
interview and are more likely to be available. To take
care of this problem we use Kish Grid.
